whats the best "double" you have worked with and why

think he means it doesnt slip boulton stickys

Im not old school so I prefer Presco's because you can lift the bolt up and leave it, makes it easier to slide in a ledger/handrail ect,I carnt stand stickys, I go out of my way not to use them, and drop forged are ok but tend not to get a lot of them offshore now because you carnt just bend the gate and smash the bolt out when its been on a hanger over the side for 5 years! I havent had a great deal of experience with mills 90, the only time ive really used them is when ive been doing my courses at the training centres, but I did like them.

rusty steel ?
it means a sticky double,on a un galvanised tube,(black steel)ie goes rusty,it will never slip.not everyone only buys galve tube, black steel is nearly half price,it does the same job though.;)

scaffold fitting

has anyone ever used an insert in a band and plate called a chair, it was supposed to increase the load bearing capacity. Brandy.

Band and plate with chairs >??? Scaff has photos of that , own a load but no chairs tho !

GKN Mills invented the 90 with the speed thread the greatest double we will ever use SGB invented the Band/Plate the greatest Band/Plate we will ever use,All them stickies little giants prescos sgb3a dropforged prop doubles are all to slow:eek:

We all know the Mills 90 is King after all these years nothing comes even close.

Still get old hand sgb lads baseing jobs out on band and plate, i only use them for underslings

Easy-fix Transoms ie-[animals/bones]Don't you think they should have made 3and 4 board ones or is this not cost effective. With them being a fixed unit they don't always requier rakers so saves on kit. Just thinking with there being so much system now on the market the hierarchy are slowly trying to get rid of T+F because of the time scale it takes to become fully trained in its use, there by training people in LEGO:nuts:sorry system which takes only one hour:D

Garry

Whe we did the hanger on the M5 bridge at portishead we used mills 90's and its true with the constant vibration of cars and lorries they did become loss in certain places and we had to keep re checking the mills 90's with spinlock threads but the ones without were ok

I never minded using B+P, although it was rare that many had thumb screws in those days, which made it a pain to run in a ledger single handed (ever tried building a 3.0 x 3.0m hoist tower using B+P without thumb screws?? - Cuntish!!)
But the true genius was the DH! What a marvellous fitting - especially on ledger braces.
The obvious down side to the B+P (and compared to a single - the DH) is their weight. I never really minded using Boulton doubles because they're light, although only really when I did rope work.
Presco doubles I never liked because the bolt would drop down into the gate sometimes and you have to manually lift in back into position - something you'd never have to do with Boultons. I would avoid press forged fittings these days though.
All said and done, give me a bin of nice drop forged couplers anyday, although I'm off the tools these days, alas.

presco is the way forward mate , we only buy df fittings , but the lads take the prescos first every time

The truth be known all the different doubles have there own little knacky ways. The longer you've used one particular type the more you get to fall in love with it. I've used them all at different stages of my scaffolding life but always seem to end up going back to my first love the mills 90:nuts:

Drop forged for me no cheap foriegn crap though boultons for check fittings all the way

Very true super scaff - , never worked with mills 90s only use them for racks ect

Can't stand Boulton fittings, then again even Boulton's fittings these days arn't Boulton fittings.

Nobody at that place has had a clue since SGB sold it.

class B Drop forged for me, just keep an eye on the Tee bar to make sure it in its seat before you slid down the dropper. It may only drop into the check tube but it's enough to make your ass slam shut!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

its gotta be mills speed threads for me just as long as you staff off for the trannys first instead of the ledger, little giants are a close second, then i like old sets,b&p,really strong fitting, what about animals?? love em.
