Normally around 20% more through the agency.

Bloody hell check out the rates on job centre agency paying £12-13 per hour that's less then you get working for a company mate

Not in my world mate. I look at the rates being offered by agency's on here and I would say it's 20% higher working direct for a scaffold contractor.

Anyway, it's not my problem, just offering my opinion.

After paying your own tax and insurance stamp out of that plus paying your own petrol and accommodation if working away from home, that pay is a joke.

The absolute minimum a scaff should be on for just keeping your head above water alone, should be at least £13.50 ph local labour and 16.00 working away. I am just quoting absolute minimum and these rates are ridiculous considering inflation rates, then they should be going UP not the other way.

Tom you just don't get it! If we didn't have agencies our wage would have gone up by now and if they pay the going rate why do the only pay selfemployed or umbrella why don't they pay holiday pay they are a joke! And they make a joke out of this industry.

Dexter, they make money out of this industry just like the tube and fitting suppliers, fuel suppliers and PPE suppliers. Businesses do not phone china for 100 x 21' tubes or call the sultan of Brunei when they want fuel cards and they do not call a plastics factory when an employee has lost a hard hat.... They serve a Purpose and act as a go between for business and labour when labour is needed.

Self employed should calculate day rates based on 42 weeks and not the whole year.
You may get a truer figure.
Rained off snowed off cancellations etc etc etc.

phil, going back to your post about only the quality scaffs stay in work, an can find work, that is the biggest load of b ull s hit i have ever read!!! you know, an every other scaff knows its all about who you know not how good a scaf you are. example, if a scaff rings up a firm an no1 has heard his name before etc there havnt got a hope in hells chance of getting in! they dont know wether he a good scaff or not coz hes never had a chance to step foot on there site, never mind prove himself!!!! an whos gets all ths starts??? ths supervisors little nephew jimmy or the gaffers son whos been scaffolding 6months!!! thats the way it is an thats the way it will aways be! not saying theres anything wrong with that because you always look after your own 1st! i know loads of good scaffs who have lost jobs etc an been given numbers to ring, but if they dont know u, u dont get in!! been a quality scaff means nothing about getting into work on the good sites!

If todays modern self employed scaffolders have started to actually pay the insurance stamp then the games fecked. I got the book from the post office once just never got round to buying the stamps.

You dont buy them as such now hswt. I get notification from them by post telling me how much I owe. twice a year.

Better that way, forgot to buy them for 15 years once. Got spanked with a whopping bill.

I think its all changed mate, A bit like the NZ system where all citizens get the same amount irrespective of stamps residency etc.
