Maybe I've not been around as long as some of you fellow scaffs, maybe I'm not as qualified or maybe don't have as much experience but what I do know is these so called old scaffs have fcuked this game up there total disregard of safety there miss use of ppe and there attitude and behaviour are why we are not classed as high as we should be in the 'trades' world. We are the top trade but treated like dirt if it wernt for us the other tradesmen would be unable to work, but due to the past we will never be paid or classed as high as other trades but hey what do I know I'm only a young un hahaha :D

Dont think you have been around that long, talking sh1te like that.

the so called old scaffs that fu cked this game up

would they be the same old scaffs that taught you your trade ?

And just as they taught you wont your generation of scaffs become the old scaffs one day and teach the next generation and so on ..........

Spot on Phillo.

The schedule of rates is the best. So much a metre of tube, boards, so much per fitting. Obviously you need men who can count and a good QS lol

Worked at Portslade power station in the 70`s whan the were demolishing it and we were on schedule of rates for Cape, thier QS was a right Nugget who paid us 4 times for the same boiler scaffold, we made a fortune and i he got made up up senior QS, i think thats how cape worked the more clangers you dropped the higher up the ladder you went

Is that any different from anywhere else...?

I remember a Foreman on TRAD Scaffolding when i was a kid on there...,
(amazingly im 30, so that was a good few years ago... for all you thick c.unts on the Forum who think a 30 year old man is a child.)
...anyway, he was a Foreman was caught red handed putting the men to work on site, then slipping off in his company van to whack a few balls at a close driving range. His punishment? - Getting sacked? Demoted to a normal Scaffolder???

Nope... he was brought into the office and offered a job as a Contracts Supervisor. :notrust:

And again:

On my last firm, working at Farringdon Train Station.
A totally useless Scaffolder on there, rough as f.uck, barely knew the difference between a Double and a Swivel, turned up late, not once... or twice... but 4/5 times A WEEK. What happened to him???

Got made up to a Foreman and THEN he started giving people grief for 'not working fast enough' or turning up late themselves - while he CONTINUED to still come in when he felt like it - 10am some days he'd stroll onto the job. :suspicious:

Im my experience this is what almost always happens Gen.

When i was an estimator at SGB jay we had a regional estimator who was a complete and utter to55er he dropped so many bollock5 it was laughable, in the end the heirarchy didnt know what to do with him so they transferred him abroad to the Middle East as operations director, so its not only the scaffolders who wonder what the fxxk`s going on, we do to

I really dont get it mate.
That guy probably earned an absolute fortune and got enough contacts to make sure that he will never be out of work and gets pukka jobs for the rest of his life...

Unbelievable.

JASON Ive been saying the same thing for ages. Right on the money there. Firms need to get together and AGREE the price of scaffolding needs to go up in order for wages to rise to an acceptable standard. That way the owners still get to keep their lifestyle for providing jobs and service ;)

ALL THESE FIRMS DO IS DRIVE WAGES LOWER AND LOWER , i know people who are out working , advanced , on a tenner an hour , and part 2's on fuckin 8.97 , i understand people have lifes to pay for , but ,,,,,, ahh **** it, whats the point, things will not improve only get worse , if u earn good money , then be happy , **** everybody else , is that it? , what fuckin representation do scaffs actually have if we cannot get a set wage for part 1's part 2's and advanced. if i ever get that lottery win the scaffolding industry is in big trouble , thats if i dont get jailed for writing on websites before then , LOL

I suppose a tenner an hour is better than the dole, I'd prefer a tenner an hour than the dole anyway although it would only be a stop gap until I found somthing better.

+1 on that Ian. I hate signing on, it's a fahooking insult what they offer. I had to do it for a few weeks earlier in the year. £110 a week is all I could claim for me & the mrs.

The problem being it aint ever going to happen, moan fecking moan moan moan. When you do what these lot do for the pay they get

REGULAR SOLDIER
Regular soldiers receive over £267 a week in Phase 1 training, which rises to at least £17,265 a year depending on which Army job you do. Some roles get specialist pay, which can be worth at least an extra £19 per day. Your salary will increase annually as your career continues, regardless of promotion and extra responsibilities. Within five years you could reach the rank of Sergeant and earn up to £32,756.

In an ideal world we would ALL be paid a set rate as per our qualifications but this will never happen. Firstly if there was a national rate it would in my opinion mean the boys on the blue book sites, rigs etc would have to have their rates cut because there's no chance that the smaller companies could pay those kind of wages & stay in business, it just isn't feasible. At the end of the day 99% of work is won on price & price alone for these boys.
It's the nature of business, profit is king & without it there is no point being in business. Sure there will be some firms out there making more than others who could probably pay there lads a bit more but there's also plenty who struggling with even £10/12 per hour but this is true in every type of business in all walks of life.
I know of a nation wide roofing company who's rate increases the further south you go but they also have different prices on jobs in the same area because they've had to go in cheaper to win the work & the men at the sharp end are the first to suffer every time.
I'm certain all the lads on here would love to be on top dollar & don't go out searching for £10 per hour work BUT if that's all that's available at that present time should the boys tell 'em to ram it!! & sign on until the dream job turns up? That really will open the doors for the foreign brigade to move in.

everybody admires the work our soldiers do , and what happens to them and they way they are treated is shameful , BUT , whose fuckin war are we fighting , ? and fuckin why ? , oh yeah freedom liberty alfuckinquaedaorwhatever , blah blah blah , 7/7 was faked , no one makes these people become soldiers so to say people must scaffold for **** money and be happy is not right , far from it.
