Hello can anyone help me out and give me price for 2nd hand gear, i've worked out a list to start up and this should get me going on a few of the jobs i have priced up.

List of materials -
440 x 21' tube 2000 Doubles
380 x 16' tubes 2400 Clips
240 x 10' tubes 400 Sleeves
320 x 9' tubes 440 Swivels
80 x 8' tube 520 Base Plates
1000 x 5' tube and a mixture of 2m - 6m ladders approx 20.

I have got a good deal on new boards so i am okay on that one.
Some help and prices would be a great help.
Thank you:D

Digger10.
Im sure you know what your doing but, it does not look like a good starting point. Where are the 13's ? and if you was going to hit the smaller builder's then i wouldnt go to mad on the long.(unless you are doing houses and using 21 for outside standards), but the list still dont look right !
Cheers.
Max.

Lot of lads forget that 8 and 13 make 21 max , 13 foot tubes are great for so many jobs . sway braces , 13 foot towers , outside standards on a house front 13 hemped with 13 catchs the handrail just nice and they fit on a half back real nice ,when i started i only had 13s as my longest tubes because they fitted on the half back instead of over the cab like the 21s , and 3 x 13 make 39 foot which is enough for 6 x 6 foot high lifts a very versatile length of tube ;)

Now that i have been given a rough price. I need to know if anyone is selling any in the cornwall area ??

Not another in Cornwall, do you know if Big John ever got the ball rolling?:wondering:

That amount of kit will earn you around 10k every 4 weeks , depending o your prices and your hire period to your customers , it takes about 3 jobs to pay for kit then it makes you money. So that kit will be in the region of 30k to buy and take 12 weeks to break even , sounds like a big investment in he current market mate , why not buy for one job at a time or is this kit for one job , maybe better to say hire the tube and fittings and buy the boards that way the next job you have the boards already bought for , and say buy x amount fittings for that , much safer investment maybe

Sounds a sensible solution to me Phill. How did you reckon 10K a month? I've never sat down and worked anything like that out, just buy it when I have to.

Old cockney secret ;)

X amount of gear per Square , x amount price per square = amount a square can earn you on your say 4 week hire period

haha, keep your secrets, you are worse than the Masons you Cockney's.

I suppose the problem for you average scaff is 1 job could eat that and more, then you have to buy the same again to stay busy.

That amount of kit is around 120 square , we would do a good few jobs every year that would use that and more in one go.

As you know AOM its all about growing at a nice steady pace when you start out , dont be taking any big gambles till you can absorb the costs

We are the same but have our fair share of even smaller stuff, so would need a lot more for 10K a month.:(

12 years down the line and still growing, just had our biggest year yet with constant year on year growth as you say at a steady pace. I wonder about others starting now but it's probably because we have done it the hard way and just couldn't face going through all that again.

yer but small work say house fronts = 4 square each , so thats 30 house fronts at say £350 each = £10,500 works out the same you get per square , in fact your probably better of with the small work , as all your eggs arnt in one basket and your turning money all the time , every one loves the big jobs but a lot can and does go wrong , plus you got some co ckl ooking over the lads shoulders every time they fart

Its strange that aom as we have had a really great year as well won some really nce work and bought a good bit of new kit all paid for

Agreed, small is beautiful for sure. The big jobs just mean some big knob trying to think of reasons not to give you your full whack. The big stuff is ok for emptying the yard but far rather the smaller stuff.

The only down side is you can be spread pretty thinly and get caught out from time to time. Think there were 8 clients expecting me on their site last Monday.

Glad to hear it, sounds just like us which isn't a bad position to be in. I have a theory, might well be a load of cods wallop but I reckon as the big boy's turn to system there is a bigger market for tube. Might be different where you are and just be coincidence but it appears to be the case round here.

a lot of the bigger firms are using system in London , probably to employ cheaper labour.
But i for the life of me cant work out how some of the bigger players make money with the prices they are charging , against what their lads do for a days work.

Same here, never been so busy, ever,to the point i've been knocking a lot of new stuff back lately,as we're already at full throttle, and i hate refusing work, just this morning we declined to price a new build school:cry:

That has had me wondering for the longest time, I could never work that out. Must be time jobs though, has to be as I know we can't go home till the wrists are bust. We have seen it a few times when the client wants us there just for cover or whatever and are happy to pay top dollar to have you on stand by, couldn't do it for a living though.

Sometimes you are as well letting them go. I thought schools were finished?
