AOM

My aunty from Canada, is into tracing our family tree, she traced my Grandfather's Parents back to Cambletown.

When she last visited the UK, her and my Mother went to Cambletown and met my Grandfathers distant relations, one of them even had the same name as my Grandfather.

Sorry got nowt to do about scaffolding, just on a nostalgia trip at the moment;)

I know this is a bit off thread but anything to relegate my earlier attempts.

A couple of possibilities there paddy, Kelly is a popular name in the toon and as you will know there is not many Jimmies in Scotland.:embarrest: The best match I can think of runs the maintenance at Springbank Distillery believe it or not, a Stephen Kelly, not sure of his old man's name, small world eh.

I think my Aunty said Young Jimmy was a falmer, they stayed for the weekend and had a night in the pub, with our long lost relations, who relayed stories of the Kelly family coming over from Ireland, they were Horse dealers or something, i allways remember my Grandfather (RIP) had horses.

If you want any info Paddy just ask, I am useless but the old man is 83 and remembers everyone who ever spent 5 mins in the town, he probably even met rigger on his hols lol.

Chase up e-mail sent to the NASC

Dear Mr Mosley,

I know the content of my last e-mail was quite detailed & may take you a while to answer but whilst waiting for that reply could you please answer the following question from one of our members?

“I have heard that in the latest edition of the blue book there is provision in there that if you have held the ECITB ticket for 15 years and have a checkable work history you can send the ticket and information to CIRS they will issue a card at that grade. Can anyone shed any light on this please?
Thanks”

Again thank-you for your time.

Scaffolders Confederation for Consultation Rights

The S.C.C.R. was formed in 2010 to represent the Industry as a whole. For too long there has been a divide between workers & employers. We feel that the formation of the S.C.C.R will provide the glue to fix this. We are not a trade union & are in a position to help both the employer & employee.

We aim to be able to assist in matters concerning Health & Safety, Training ,Development & Recruitment.

To become a member just contact us & we will send you an application form via e-mail.

The aim over the next year is to continue discussions with the HSE in regards to training & SG4 2010. The next meeting being in October this year. We are currently forming a committee as follows.

Chairman
Vice Chairman
Treasurer
Promotions Secretary
HSE development Secretary
Training development Secretary
+ two other members to help with the above.

The first formation of this committee will be selected from the forum. Any forum member can vote or nominate for any position. First & second votes needed. The S.C.C.R will have a separate web site & e-mail & will take membership applications at the end of August. From that date on the voting will only be for S.C.C.R members.

The forum will always be the centre for discussions & publishing of all correspondence.

Over the last week or so some strong opinions & arguments have been flying around now make use of this opportunity & put your keyboard to use .

Reply to my chase up e-mail:

"Mr Quinney
As you have stated re your previous email, there is a lot of ground to cover and as I stated in my response I do not want to get involved in an on- going email debate. These issues would be easier to discuss over the phone, if you send me your telephone number, I will be happy to discuss them with you.

In relation to the question below there is no agreement in place to transfer ECITB cards for CISRS cards irrelevant of how long they have been held. The only way to achieve a CISRS card is to complete the requisite training at an approved training centre, achieve the NVQ and pass the H&S test.

Regards
Dave Mosley"

As we have said what a rip off.:eek:The next stage I feel is legal action!!!!!

Who's to say they won't in a couple of years say we all need refresher courses!!

Draft initial announcement

Scaffolders Confederation for Consultation Rights

Introduction

We aim to provide help to the whole industry.

We welcome members from individual scaffolders, sole trader, LTD or Corporate companies as well as suppliers.

Throughout the year we will hold meetings with the HSE to progress the development of our Industry in a fair & safe way. One of the first issues we will contend is advanced handrails. The S.C.C.R is not against it but it needs to be applied correctly. Working up to three lifts should be exempt from this rule change. Controlled tunnelling is more than sufficient at this height. We see the step up as dangerous & illegal.

The S.C.C.R is also working on safe systems of practice in regards to temporary roofs & edge protection on industrial units. In time we are happy to help with any system of work. The idea is to produce generic systems for most applications. The danger is, if the rules are too strict then not every scaffolder will follow them hence making an unfair system which will lead to unfair practices.

The S.C.C.R wants training to be provided by an independent body with help & guidance from industry bodies producing guidelines & safe systems of work, which are available to the scaffolders doing the job. Why are qualified ECITB ticket holders not recognized by the CISRS scheme, some have been scaffolding for over 15 years!!.

We aim to run a charity side of the S.C.C.R that will be able to support scaffolders with training at the level they are experienced in. We will provide seminars & safety talks to regional areas FREE of charge, focusing on the four main areas of our Industry i.e. Domestic, Industrial, Specialist & Off Shore.

The S.C.C.R. aim to help scaffolders gain as much skill & information as possible so they can be matched with the right job. This in turn will enable scaffold firms to find the right scaffolder.

"Dear Mr Mosley,

Again thank-you for a prompt reply.

I would prefer written replies so there are no misunderstandings in this matter.

After all it is a very important subject in which scaffolders will & have lost their livelihood.

Just to clarify my position, I don't get paid for the work I am doing & am willing to see this through I would hope that you will too.

I will inform you the next date of our HSE meeting & will invite you in as a guest speaker if you wish.

This subject has over 1800 hits on our site & is very important to us. What is going to be changed next.. Advanced cards!! Inspection Cards!!

Times are very hard scaffolders cannot afford to keep shelling out.

Kind Regards S.Quinney
