ONE of Scotland's largest privately held energy services companies has been snapped up by a Dutch firm in a deal that is expected to net its chairman tens of millions of pounds.
Aberdeen-based RBG - which employs some 4,500 staff, including about 3,000 in Scotland - has been sold by private equity firm 3i and Dyce-based Ashley Group for an undisclosed sum to Netherlands-based Stork Technical Services and buy-out specialist Arle Capital Partners.
John Ray, chairman of RBG and majority shareholder in Ashley Group, reportedly stands to make tens of millions of pounds from the deal.
RBG was created in 2004 following the merger of Mach-Ten and 3i companies MESL and Rigblast. The company turned over £300 million in 2010 and was last year valued at about £200m.
The group's bases in the UK include the deepwater facility at Invergordon, in Easter Ross.
Dave Workman, RBG's chief executive, said: "I have no doubt that this is a positive move for all.
"This deal marks the next stage of our journey, bringing greater opportunities for our employees and significant benefits to our clients."
