I just accessed the IOSH Site, first time for months, they have refurbished the Site, I tried to log on to access my old posts, but it knocked me back, aye, the majority of the IOSH Members are self opinionated inverted snobs, I stopped posting because I had reached saturation point and exhausted the H&S Scaffolding and Allied Rigging Operations Topics and Issues associated with our Industry. That said---I did enjoy some of the Posts and Threads especialy the ones that REAL Scaffolders contributed to. I seem to recall John Houlihan, however, I cannot recall the Topic under discission.

I do not wish to undermine the IOSH Members and or Orginisation, this registered Charity has contributed a considerable amount of advise and data to the HSD and HSE and no doute will continue to offer H&S orientated Courses to those who aspire to join the ranks of Occupational Health and Safety Practitioners.

What are you working on at the moment Scaffy ???.

John houlihan is a grad iosh that specialises in scaffolding down south , we used him through safety and access but now we go direct with him.
I have put a few of the guys here through IOSH managing safety ect and the courses are first class however no i dont go on there any more as i took it as a case of face dont fit !!!

I work as a contracts manager / scaffolder for a company down south we do a lot in London , but a few guys from here are doing a bit offshore for Rigblast i believe

I admire your initiative in sending some of your Scaffs on IOSH Courses---it is only right and proper that those Scaffolder who demonstrate a wish to progress and to nurture and maintain a Scaffolding Safety Culture fit for purpose---I have worked in the Oil and Cas Industry since the Brent B Hook-up in 1978, worked all over the North Sea and allied onshore Facilities, (Scaffolder, Project Management and of late 3rd Party Project Management and Auditing) with many Service Companies, Rigblact included---Iv got a few interests in UAE and Nigeria at the moment---Training Programs, Safety Management and Product Awareness, the Ba's burst in the North Sea now---cultivating new Client Base.
 
Same as that looking for new oppurtunitys at the mo , looking to recruit new business generator matey , yeh my in house guy decided that we should put the guys through these courses as it seems to wake them up to deal with there obligations and all that , very succesfull so far - believe it or not a few have also done scaffold inspectors courses no doubt just to slag other blokes work off ha ha
Training is the way forward we like to think our guys are the best on site with there qualifications however small the job be CSCS PASMA IPAF IOSH who knows next will be NEBOSH , we do a lot of petrol work as well so many have there PIA tickets too

Just done a bit up in perth a few weeks ago - back to that have spanners will travel !

You are certainly working in the right direction, I would recommend that you consider obtaining the Curriculum NEBOSH and setting up your own in-house Training regime, your Candidates will only need to pay the Fee to sit the Exam.

I attended a NEBOSH HNC at Aberdeen Technical College in 1992 and found it advantageous in that it opened many doors as well as giving me a greater understanding and insight into the Legal Requirements, Duties of Care, ect...

As for seeking out new opportunities and increasing your Orginisation Market share; I would consider looking at the Decommissioning of North Sea Installations and the Construction of the 3rd Generation Nuclear Power Stations. Creating a Specialist Disapline which couples Scaffold Erection ( Special Structures in Tube and Fittings ) Rigging and Lifting Operations. This provision is already operating in the North Sea.

Further Consideration should be given to horizon scanning projects to identify new products and procedures.

What is your Orginisation Work Scope and which Sectors are they looking at ???
 
as discussed anything up to 250k would be nice
