BLACKPOOL Promenade has been closed after The Tower was damaged in gale force winds.
Scaffolding and plastic sheeting from around the world famous landmark was sent crashing to the ground by winds of up to 80mph.
Nobody was injured, but police and council bosses have closed roads circling The Tower - The Promenade, Victoria Street, Bank Hey Street and Heywood Street - as a precaution.
Police are advising motorists to avoid the area this morning while the damage is assessed.
Meanwhile, a sail has been ripped from Lytham windmill.
Many rural roads have been affected by fallen trees and police are again advising motorists to give themselves more time to reach work during today's rush hour.
