It's how I started so why not?

You would have to be bang on though as most people are suspicious of white van man although they are the back bone of this country.

i it is indeed marra just i know a few palsters and brickies ect but not sure of the insurances ect and how much it would cost be fore makign a penny ill have to luck in to it but i supose i could allways led some of yrs ahaha lol

When I went out on my jack jones the insurance was £75, now it probably wasn't worth the paper it was written on as it was from the back of the Star or the Sun but that wasn't my concern. As the firm grew and I formed a ltd company it soon rose to 18K as by that time the quality was my concern.

As for the price and profit you will soon learn how to price it. Start off counting your hours for a hefty rate up and down then add expenses, if you get a bit put the price up and if you don't bring them down. There is cash to be made, but it will go down hill bit by bit if you decide to grow.

Right there aom start with pick up then you need wagon then operators licience then the inspections on the wagons every 8 weeks, and you can guarentee they find something wrong with it and bang £800 quid down.

every time the fitter looks at one of mine it costs me a grand.

I sometimes wish i could go back to the half back days , things seemed so easy then

Paid almost 6K to have an exhaust up grade to meet the low emission zone just so i can drive the thing to work :(

Dont know why lads always want to set themselves up as company, during summer with a bit kit , pick up and small insurance policy there is good cash to be made after work or weekends , If I could turn clock back I would keep job and do back and fronts for roofers cash in hand , keep cash in a tin and go away to top hotel, top destination for 4 weeks over xmas and new year ,

I don't know about you boy's but I was just trying to get off the rigs and as this is such a small area I was practically unemployable due to a number of reasons none of which were my fault:embarrest:, I had burnt more bridges than a retreating army and doing it myself was my only real chance at getting back home. I started wanting no more than a 7.5 tonner my wee mate beside me and pick up the odd donkey casual. Didn't last long as the customers demanded more and more from me and I would say that is the real problem with staying small, if you are not prepared to do the bigger jobs the client would get shafted on the price as no firm would give a discount to a part time customer. It's probably different in the cities but that's what I found anyway.

Trouble is when you start turning down the bigger jobs and you have nothing else , before you know it you got to much gear for the yard need a bigger lorry because you cant haul enough gear , then you need more bigger work because your over heads are getting out of control and before you know it you are as big as " Abramavic of Argyle " hahahhahahah

Aye very good Phil, we are still punching above our weight on a lot of fronts I know but I have seen his yacht round my way a couple of times and my wee jet ski just doesn't cut it.:embarrest:

ARG the whole business thing has gone down hill, with government taxing more on things each year, my advice is get out and emigrate ARG

Never, country boy through sand through come thick or thin. Granted, there is nothing but thin on the horizon but it is a world wide problem, where would you go?

superscaff you have just read my mind, you just missed out all inclusive and the kids stay with the grand parents.

go for it mate, then up to you how much you fancy earning in your spare time...speculate to accumulate..

when opportunity knocks ;)
its your call scaff1989, but if you don't, every time someone shafts you, its p!ssing down, or your boss sickens you, or anything else that is sickening (which still happens when owning a firm) in the back of your mind EVERY day you will be saying i could've been that soldier.

go for it but like a few of the boys that have done it, it is very hard work and be prepared to give up a bit of the family, at least till you make your first million:eek:

I would do cash only jobs and keep my current job if I had the chance again cos its just not worth half the hassle you get , keep it small, night and wkend jobs for cash then fook off to jamaica all inclusive for 4 weeks mid december, Cocktails and purple haze Js on the beach at a sandals resort or something Hell Yeah.

You are a braver man than I am, I would just do the cash jobs and sit in the house for a couple of days a week.

Might even get myself one of those ub40 things I kept hearing about in my youth, maybe even tell some newly qualified doc my back aches so much I can't get up the stair at night even although I live in a bungalow, well it worked at school when I told them my homework fell in the fire.....we were all electric.

Don't want to put the kibosh on it mate but I thought you were a part 1 ?
Wouldn't get insurance would you or am I wrong. Could you get another lad (part2, advanced) and do it ? Im not sure

Ah FFS even better, throw the card away lash em up for cash and tell em you live in dudley.
