Tickets? Do you think they are as important as they are made out to be??

The minimum wage in Australia is almost 11 quid an hour compared to the UK's 6 quid. This is because Australia has strong unions and good membership.

How about my previous question? Is an assessed route CISRS scaffolder competent as he has not done the training? If he is then so is a man who has been in the game 30 years.

On the CISRS advanced course trainees are shown how to do a suspended scaffold off steel using the trapeze method. Would you risk one of these on an underdeck hanger which is different?

Did you attend training courses instructor or just receive the grandfather rights ticket?

I know unions play a part ,but so does scarcity if some thing is scarce the price goes up.
The assessed route was scrapped in 2006 ,all the lads I know attended courses, but I see no reason why assessed route scaffs would not be competent.
It is rare the trapeze can be used ,so if they came to scaffold under a helideck there could be some head scratching!

There is one, very simple way of seeing if someone is any good at scaffolding...

Ask them to twirll their spanner around their finger

The requirement to qualify as competent includes training. So that excludes the assessed route men.
No shortage of scaffolders in Australia I know loads waiting to get on the big projects.
As regards the trapeze thats exactly the point. Should people who have only ever done one hanger using a trapeze which was on the course be let loose under a helideck??

Make them post videos on you tube of some of their work?????

Close, but no.

It's the amount of tools on their belt.

Don't be stupid Phil, you'll get all kinds of clowns clogging up the airways with pointless dross. Save Youtube for mindless japes and porn not Scaffolding !

Competent is derived from a combination of the following -Experience-Training-and Qualifications ,take that how you like it.

And of course, spanner twirling and maybe high hemping skill whilst smoking.

The same as you have all kinds of clowns clogging up the scaffolding world?

Thank you dangerus with 2 S's for the competency criteria. So no training like the assessed route = not competent.

I know an instructor who told me they passed all the assessed route applicants no matter what as they had been instructed that the industry had a shortage. He also told me the weekend overtime came in handy.

I also know a guy who did the assessed route who had never actually worked on the tools and his prior experience was falsely validated by the company his brother worked for. He also received a prized CISRS card!!!

Quick point HSWT, my brother passed the assessed route and he's a complete retard !

Phil 181,its in response to his Thailand job offer. He's had loads of pm's

---------- Post added at 09:29 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:18 AM ----------

Ive had a quick chat to the lads about competency, they have come up with these sure fire pointers to determine if a scaff's any good
1-The spanner twirling thing
2-Size of the hole on the right shoulder of the sweat shirt or Hoodie
3-How many tools on the belt, including a phone frog.
5-How long it takes to roll a fag.

So there you have it HSWT, I think you'll agree thats answered all of the previous points.

Well can you sort it, please!

God, I hate it when someone trolls a legitimate 'Tickets? Do you think they are as important as they are made out to be??' thread :mad::mad:

All this frivolity is fascinating but are men who took the assessed route considered as competent when the criteria for competence includes training? I could assess a part 1 and deem him competent to work on a hanger.
I need an instructor to comment.

Times have changed Gary due to insurance companies stating erected and dismantled by competent person or policy is VOID. It was not funny sliding down a dropper without even a harness and using your belt to tie yourself to the dropper.

Did plenty of hangers without a harness but I have to admit its the first time I have heard of a scaffolder tieing on to a dropper with his belt. Would love to see a video of that!!

---------- Post added at 10:32 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:30 AM ----------

We didnt even bother with butts on the droppers just a single used to do fine. Some preferred just a double.

Chinky Set ;)

What tickets are required for the Thailand contract and who is the best guy to PM.

Tried that no butts and only a double malarky on droppers ,I didn't like it.
As for sliding down a dropper with your scaffold belt tied around it ,well its an absolute belter! that one .
If I saw someone try it ,I would have to send them to the medic as they must be delirious or some thing !
Why was the assessed route scrapped anyway ?was there problems with it?
