Beams up right way?

To me hanging or building the top will be compressed the bottom tension

ah yes when the beam is use supported between two point the top cord is allways going to be in compresison and bottom tension but if its sailed out the bottom becomes compression and the top tension so does this mean the beam should turned the oppisite way on a beam sailed out to 1 used for bridging is what am after ?


sss what i think joebag means am maby rong is that as a part two you can go out an put a job up legally but only to the 2nd lift after that you would need a scaff that had got the testing cert,to be able to tie test and build higher. how would a day to day part two go about changing what on the training ? in part 2 would they hold any weight in presenting this to cisrs ? or do you think it would hold more weight if coming from an instructor like your self surly instructors do have some in put or weight to conserns, do you thing the part 2 course would benafit a scaffolder if they came away form it with a tie test traing and cert?

Why should u get a cert in pull testing each machine is different. For each machine you should be trained in its use ( provision use work equipment regs) law

that a no then lol but i suppos its like fall arrest we should get trained in it on the part 1 but done as theres two many diffrent types its would be unfair on manufactures to endorse 1 type and not the other if that your thinking behind it ??

Hey, I'll get a celebrity guest if I can. Didn't Tommy Walsh present some awards at a scaffolders apprenticeship scheme? As a long admired figure by the scaffolding world this man seems suitable to present the scaffold forum awards...... :idea:

I totally agree Steve......a whole load of codswallop bleating about what can't be done.........& FA about what can be done!!?? In every professional role or industry, criteria on how to adjudge competency, skills & abilities are set. Doctors, Accountants, Solicitors......SCAFFOLDERS even! Apparently not scaffolding design engineers though!? Absolute rubbish!!

In my opinion if you are working in the scaffolding installation business, without the brain capacity to work out the difference between span beams being in compression or tension........go get a driving job! If you allow a 2-day inspection course attendee to show you yer own arse in a technical debate.......then your CiSRS course was a waste of money & time because you learned nowt!.....get a job cleaning wheely-bins, you may cope with this task better!

If you consider yourself nothing but a "lowly scaff" that needs your hand holding over every decision needing to be made like:- "which way up does this beam go? Or how do I pull test this drilled anchor?" Then you are an embarrassment to every Advanced scaffolder that put on his spanners..........go flip burgers at.McDonalds you waste of skin & leave the scaffolding to real men!

the way i check me apollo ties is stick me spanner threw the bolt on to the wall and pull me spanner towards me trust me it works as i have a couple of spanners in the face so its re drilled and tests the marra way again if i don't get smashed in the mouth its good trust me av got arms likes pipe cleaners you can only shag with the cok you got,

simple answer contact the beam manufacturer Layher they do a very good indepth beam user manual.
Why do people openly say you can mix different manufactured parts and its ok,you read posts on here and its very worrying.Regular posters who dont know the facts !!!
