I have no previous experience as a scaffolder although i have done some labouring on site with my dad in the past.

I am 20 years old, Live in London and have mostly worked in sales and in the fitness industry as a personal trainer, i was looking at a career change and hopefully becoming a scaffolder.

Just wanted to know what my best and quickest option would be to getting work as a scaffolder, i know i would need to get a basic CSCS card and possibly do further training but not sure where to start!

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Regards, Lee

lee welcome to the forum
first of all you need to labour first for some scaafolders then do you trainee scaffolds course.
will you be funding you own training ?

Thanks for the quick reply!

If i was to labour for a scaffolding company would i just be required to carry the poles around and would not be allowed to erect or dismantle any poles even at a ground level or would it vary greatly dependant on the company?

What is the general pay for a labourer on a scaffolding site?

i've heard it tends to be slightly higher than a general labour on a construction site dragging bricks around, is that true?

At the moment im not really in a position to invest much into my own training but obviously after working as a labourer or similar i would be able to start paying and working towards getting further qualified.

Thanks again!

regards, lee

Welcome, my advice would be to labour before you go for your cards. learn to walk before you run. Get your cards eventually though, even if you have to pay for yourself. Apart 2 card will pay for itself. Just remember to finish the course properly and dont get stuck with a part 1.

Hi iam to looking to start a career in scaffolding! I live in Newcastle and have no experience at all! I have my cscs card which I have just done! Could any1 advise me which way to turn??
Thanks

Have you spoken to all the firms in your locality, there must be loads of them?

If possible, try and get broken in easy. If you arent used to the weights of tube and not yet have a 'second skin' on one of your shoulders, then it could be a bit of a baptism of fire.
I was lucky when I started in the game I did the 6 months in the Grayston yard at Droylesden, Manchester to learn how to handle tube/boards etc.

Best of luck.

Cheers lads and yes I have spoken to a few of them but without experience they don't seem that interested, is there any other way in couses I could better my self so I could possibly get a start??
Cheers
