Hi does anyone know of any scaffolding companies looking to take on trainees in the edinburgh area. I'm a qualified electrician but due to lack of work and a change in future plans I'm looking to become a qualified scaffolder. I've sat and passed the cskills health and safety working at height test and have my CISRS card. I also have a full clean drivers liscence. I know theres a lot of people posting the same thing but any help or advice would be much appreciated. Cheers.

You have got to be kidding me, I'm sorry to be the one who says this but I hope you are not telling potential employers you are a qualified spark as if they were anything like me they will assume you are playing at it and will run back to your pliers the first bad winter. Don't get me wrong, I am not having a dig but this does not sound like a wise move.

Why don't you relocate or travel for work sparky or scaffold....... Lifting heavy stuff all day every day working out side in all weathers . Snipping wire and wiring boxes up in dry houses i know which i would rather some 1 do btu good luck marra

Marra as much as that sounds great and easy, have you ever pulled an armoured cable? I did it for my work experience at 16. Nuff said.

Do sparks pull cable now, any time I saw them it was labourers or cable pullers as they were called surprisingly enough.

armored cable yep heavy as fek and a feking night mare to cut threw and thats when only running in a line for a cooker ahaha . Thats armred cable more on the ind side of things. In houses its got to be a good larl earner a doddle like domestic plumber yeha ya get some ****** larl jobs with lodza raket tight squezes but a lot less hard work than scaffolding

This is a reply to aom. Nah mate I'm not kidding you 70 per cent of the people in my college class who passed there trade test are working as joiners, bus drivers, scaffolders etc so its a bit narrow minded to suggest I'm "playing at it". Your saying its not a wise move but I reckon sitting on my arse or working for agencies isn't a wise move. People change careers everyday it's not that outlandish. Hi Marra basically not got enough electrical
Qualifications to work away as there's a lot more to do after the trade test. I've also applied for jobs scaffolding all over the place but to no success.

Same as everything Stuart, supply and demand. The scaffs are usually first in and last out but that doesn't mean it's easy. I still reckon unless things have changed dramatically over the past few years you would be better as you are. As for Edinburgh, there are a few East coast scaffs on here from time to time who can hopefully point you in the right direction but off the top of my head all I can think of is Check It and Asc who we lost a good size roof too round here. I got this from google.

As I am I've not worked since Xmas I was working as a labourer from sept to December. It's just a case of me needing to shake things up abit. by no means do I think it will be easy But I'm more than capable of handling the work load of a scaffolder. I actually heard from a scaffolding company from my area today looking to take on trainees and whether I'd be interested not for a few weeks tho so just need to keep trying until then. Thanks for the advice.

Probably, only he knows why he thinks scaffing is better. Is work really that bad we have been promoted above the sparks?

Have you tried scaffolding before ,it ain't for most people, good luck with it give it a go ,electrician job must be far better

Nah never tried scaffolding. Was a brickies labourer last year carrying 50kg kops for 6 weeks straight. Scaffolders arent the only ones to put In A hard days graft. Granted sparkying is going to be physically easier in some cases but it doesn't mean automatically I'm soft and can't handle it. End of the I'm trying to be pro active and trying to get myself a steady job there probably should be a few more out there doing the same.
