How can you send a gang out to strip a hanger when the gang in question is used to three sides of a house , the hanger the supervisor wanted the gang to strip was 28 meters high hanging from a steel roof structure on our local stadium . When i approached the supervisor to say look i was the one who erected it maybe i should strip it , his response was he was trying to catch the gang out as he wanted them to leave and he thought that stripping this hanger was the job to do it! . Got back to the yard on the night to find out that the gang did jack it in .

Scaffs on housing sites, part 2's
Hangers are for advanced
Either they were under or over qualified !
but if the supervisor wants shot if them, its probably for another reason

I think it all comes down to what they are being paid.
If they are being paid the same rate then they should be competent in all scaffolding fields.
I am sure we have all worked with men getting paid the same rate but who wont get off the ground or are keen to pass gear when a hanger needs to be done?
Its also worrying to see all these "over" qualified men looking for work on this site. Advanced,Bosiet, Nebosh, Pasma etc The phrase "jack of all trades" comes to mind.

Bit unfair that Hatterscaff, I know scaffolders with no tickets who can run rings round supposed "Advanced " scaffs, I also know advanced scaffs who got their tickets on grandfather rights or assesed routes who know f*ck all about technical scaffolds and are only good for housing sites. It shouldn't be about a piece of plastic it should be about a mans experience hence the big ECITB debate.

If the scaffolder can't do the job in question then its down to the man who sends him there!!

Know your workforce & don't take chances to get rid of bad rubbish.

Will result in more costs if something went wrong!!

******** pt2 for housing sites ive been doing hangers all over country a scaffold is a scaffold its your job so get on with it all they r is upside down scaffolds i hate that advanced ****

i got my advanced ticket on the accessed route of entry , and it scared the f **** out of me who could pass it i even know of a firm who sent a lorry driver though it. i have met some first class scaffolders without tickets, because no firm would ever sponser them for it.Having a ticket dont mean a lot to me, experiance is where it counts.

i have advanced,i paid for the lot, one, two, advanced.it does start to pixx you off, when slashers get the same money as you.and they ant got diddley.i for one, feel that i have earned my cards.and slashers are ruining the job by there ignorance ,of not being educated on loading, handrail height, ladders, ties, etc, etc, etc.you get the idea.now im not slagging all people without a ticket, theres more that want the tickets, than them that just get by slashing jobs up.:eek:they dont listen to advice, one is the paperwork, the very foundation of the job,two gets you understanding cantilevers, trussouts, gantrys, advanced gives you the great feeling of accomplishment.all go together.

iv got pt2 but 13 years exp i should be adv but i wont suck bosses off but ive been up against adv a i can hold my own with the spanner and the brain i make it my job 2 educate my self on all regs allways ave prid in my work and hate the **** it sydrome its your job so why be lazy and rough

Think i was looking at the situation wrong as my thoughts were how can you send a gang to a job that you know its above there competence level of the of the gang , what if they went to the hanger and gave it a go and it all went wrong , its not something i would feel comfortable with but im no supervisor .
I am a firm believer that if you erect it then you strip it but i know this is not always possible as we all seem to erect scaffold differentley even thou we have all gone through the CITB training scheme

Its not everyone cup of tea doing hangers how many remember they first 1, the old leg shaker, when you slide down your 21 dropper and your perched there middle of nowhere and your bricking it, but you dont what to show it to the other lads, my first one was bout 300ft up 20 x5 and the adv scaff put the butts on the 8 droppers( something that i learnt is you put your own butts and checks on, never rely on someone else, the adv scaff fixed all 8 droppers in place off ladder beams and 3 of them slid down the inside droppers, i looked down bout slide down mine when i see the butt it was bout 3" long, ba**ards no wonder they were quick to go down there droppers, got them shouting at me get down it, you big bag of chank, im not happy there sat on nice 2 foot butts but what can i do, dont want to be a wimp so slide down my dropper and ive got to stand as best i could on mine, well fu*k me the old leg starts to go and then when we get the ledger in one of me m8s stands up to stretch himself and straddles the ledger he slips and cracks his balls, so now youve got me with me leg shaking and me belly cause im laughing so much at him, how i didnt pull the job over the side with the amount of swinging it was doing i dont know. Hangers are something if your not doing them week in week out, and its been awhile you can still get the old arse twitcher with them.

Have seen it once when an old boy put a butt on a swivel for a cocky youngun to go down should have seen his face when it flipped round on him, (he did have inertia reel on) or another favourite is knocking the centre out of a sleeve and sliding it half way down a dropper fixing it off and then be about when someone else has to strip it watch them go ape over it and say they aint stripping that what stupid c**t has put a joint on a dropper:laugh: then you let him strip most of it and then you jump down on the dropper he looks at you as if your mad or just sucidal as you undue the sleeve, the look on there faces when it slides down is brilliant:eek:

At the end of the day if your not happy doing something takes a bigger man to admit it. Rather be out on a hangar with someone who is comfortable with it than i guy that isnt but is doing it cause he doesnt want to get the sack over it. Thats when accidents happen.

Another old favorite was to put the top check fitting on the dropper a gnats fanny above the hanging double then wait till your mate was down there and undo the back of the hanging double. The dropper would only drop a millimeter but the faces and swearing would never be forgotten!!

I couldnt stop laughing reading that seen them happen a few times

how remembers the olde days no harness and no anisha reels.claw marks in the steel.
drip drip from the forehead.thank good them days are gone.

very true animal if you aint comfortable dont do itbecause its bound to go wrong, i think if you dont get butterflys when you do a hanger there is something wrong with you.do you still use butts ? i always drop a trapesse and board it out fully much more comfortable then crushing your nuts mate. I had a lad a couple of years ago thought he was the dogs ********, we had a hanger to do only a hundred foot high but hanging from a horse on the roof,so when it came to going down the hangers i went first and he followed on the inside , the first thing i noticed was the colour drain from his face and he almost froze on me, he then decided to shin back up the hanger what a f ******* sight he was.He never gave it the big one again , hangers ,canterlevers etc need to be done by experianced lads , break there cherry slowley hahahahahaha :) :) :)

there are alot of chancers in the game all the gear no idea.if these ball room dancers cant do wot they are paid to do they shouldnt even put a harness and belt on .they are putting good grafters out of work in these dark times nuff sed ....

Agree entirley mate,if they claim to be scaffs, then they should have the knowledge and balls to be able to do anything asked of them,if they want the wage they should earn it,if not give somebody else the chance. This is what does my head in,when most gangs are on the same rate, yet not are all capable of the same work..
