maybe when a scaff gets a job with an agency , then goes to job the next day and falls , then the HSE see his harness was not meeting requirements and he has no public liabity insurance , maybe something like that would see a crackdown on the agencies and maybe help change whats going on but that was 3 maybe's so thats asking a lot

Ive been blacked from a certain construction company for life,for going on strike but i would do the same thing tomorrow its called princibles,but sadly thats gone out of the window today.
 
OldScaff, Yes you are right in what your saying & men do get blacked but this forum can get the word out their for men to get these agencies to make changes in how they go about getting work for the men, I'm happy they get work it's what comes with it I & all the rest of the county don't like, If the Scaffs said no we don't want to use umbrella companies just to make up their money, Then they can dimarned the digs to be payed not have to pay to lots of NI & redundancy pay, This is just the basics without really going into this!!!!

Yeah I have had some agency work in the past, desperate times, desperate measures and all that. So with that in mind I'll chip in my 2 pence worth.

If the contractor can use subbies via the agency why Can't they employ the same scaffs on a sub contract basis??? This would allow the scaffold company to be up front and say truthfully how much work is there....

The twist here is that the temp worker could get a better rate, say a couple of quid less than the company pays the agency. Most importantly this saves the company money and benefits the scaff no end. Then instead of guys tossing it off and time wasting because they have no other job to go to, ( I have never been like this but have seen lots of it) they should work for there money, (as hard as his permanent staff) prove themselves in the process, and maybe get a permanent position in the future. ...

Up front and honest, if told a week's work is what is there a week should be honoured, without argument, and at a very good rate, after all you need agency guys to get you out of a hole!!!
 
That is so right, Grate to hear from you I hope we can get more Scaffs like yourself to comment on this & see what everyone out there thinks???
 
Agencies only really entered the scaffolding game when the big subbies like Devanny went to the wall in previous recession. There are agencies for every trade and job from nurses to house cleaners. They have been around for years and I dont think they will disappear as they suit the employers.
 
Their only need to be some changes & they need to benefit those that are doing the work not the agencies creaming it!!!!! This is the best time to get the problem delt with when it's on the ground like it is in the UK right now.
I don't know what the situation is like in Australira for Scaffolders & the way they want to respect their men??
 
I live in Croatia & work offshore in the UK & I'm not living there but I want the best for the guys in the UK, Good pay for a good day, That go's back to when my Dad was on the tools, Your not asking for much today!!!
 
Umbrella companies different from agency. I worked for my mates company first 6 months this year,paid by umbrella company.

Agency = labour supply and rate.
Umbrella = payment structure. Giving you no rights.
 
If the sccr is our voice,asyou say,are they doing anything about it?
 
Yes you are right about the Umbrella + Agencies but they only come both together, & regards to the SCCR doing anything No they don't want to rock the boat as they get money from every company that's on it!!!!

Richie that post wins the award for the most inaccurate and completely wrong statement ever posted on here.

How on earth does the SCCR make any money from agencies or umbrella companies, what makes you think that?

If you read the post before inregards to Umbrella & Agencies
That would be Q1. Then I said regards to this forum you make money thou advertising? Anyway stop shouting at me & try & do something maybe start a pitition on hear & see how many Scaffs you get to sign it??? Or try & help some way???

It's not the A team,it's goverment legislation that's allowing agencie's and umbrella companie's to exist and i cant see anyone getting rid of them now:(
 
So being in union is pointless as we now have no rights to fight for?
