Quite a few of the forum user's seem to be really quite work wise,i know we are,and marra's firm are starting their holiday period on the 14th,which is really early,i'm tempted to do the same, but i wonder how the agencie's are fareing,a few lads from quite a large local firm rang me yesterday in a pickle because they'd been layed off, unable to help them i suggested trying an agency till the christmas and gave them forefronts number as i've read on here that their a fair outfit,so how is work for the agency men??........whilst typing this my phone rang with some industrial tanks for the 13th,so there's hope yet, lol:cool:

Agencies are doing better than most scaffold companies its how big companies start by supplying labour.

It's dead and all the agency's I've rang have just messed us about one min we get a start the next something's happened on site and the client has changed his mind or there don't even have the contract it's a total nightmare I've gave up now and gonna ride the stom until after new year now I think.

It's a bit quite down here to but got a few sites kicking off feb march weather ain't helping plenty of early finishes

Just try and enjoy the down time while it's here boy's, the steel will be flying around soon enough.

Only way really Scouse. It took me a while to learn to relax but the truth is the jobs will come in and we will all be up to our t1ts in steel begging them to stop the hurting.

seems dead everywhere we are all on 4 day weeks at the moment. still luckier than some i suppose

True enought, I enjoy a bit of down time when I can get it but tend to worry more about if my labourer can manage if work gets slack especially before chrimbo.

We are up to our necks in it at the moment , not complaining though makes a change after the last couple of years we have had

1st time in over 10yrs that we are going into the new year with little to no work in the diary- but tbh am looking forward to getting the yard in order and sorting through the materials or maybe i'll just watch all you northerners on jeremy kyle show...as it seems to make me feel quite normal and with no probs vompared to them lol- should start to pic up arounf end of feb

The January gales are a good money spinner round here.

Be careful in what you wish for Alister

First time I worked away was in Glasgow 1968, stayed in a lovely little place named Govan Cross, local pub Govan Arms

"In Glasgow alone, over 300 houses were destroyed and 70,000 homes were damaged. Due to the strong winds, half of Glasgow's council houses were damaged.
Many people evacuated the then Europe's tallest flats as they began swaying. Officials said at least seven ships sank or broke up adrift causing over hundreds of thousands of pounds.
Off the east coast of Scotland, a drilling rig called Sea Quest was set adrift in rough seas.
Over a thousand mature trees were downed in the Central Belt, as well as power lines.
In total the storm felled 8,000 hectares of forest across Scotland (1.6 million cubic metres of timber).

A Glasgow police spokesman said that it was 'absolute havoc' in the city. Electrical power also failed in Glasgow, leaving the whole city in darkness."
