Whats the score with the plate end
and no ive never used them like that
whats it for

A bit of a long story but they are not mine, we use Generation beams but after sending some photo's to a designer he thought that was the beams I was using and explained that he comes across them all the time and they are quite often failing.

I have seen them used round here and I think I know who supplies them, I just wondered if anyone used them on here.

Thats what im thinking about philio but i dont think they have the fishplates.you can use them in box sections as per the drawing

Yes, we have a couple of jobs where the beams are used to their max, he reckoned we were in imminent danger if it was them we were using.

Got a few 450 Ali in yard like that design . What's the problem with them? Might be best to weigh them in tomorrow morning for some beer tokens

used some similar on palmers a few years back, whats the problem with them aom?
how are they failing? welds?

As per usual boy's don't take my word for it, the designer we use reckoned he has done a few investigations over the past 10 years and every beam that failed was this design. The thin blade end weld is weak, I will be having a right good rummage just to make sure as I am a wee bit concerned in case someone else's gear has got mixed up with mine.

Nearly all my beams are of that desighn from gens and have used them for years in many differnt ways from bridging to support works and roofing applications with no probs if you contact gens they will give you the seperate calc sheet for them-which i beleave is what the desighners work to- think hes seeing probs where there arnt any- if there were reported or potential for failure they would withdraw the stock & recall

Out of interest what is the spacing on the Strut (upright)..... every 2m so an 8m has 5 ?

Yes, I think that's right.

It's Generations beams we have and I have all the calcs for them that I sent to our designer, all the beams we have from there are not that design but I have found just 1 set of 6m beams which does have that design but they never came from there. The guy we use has his own feelings about them and was warning me of his concerns, I don't know if he is right or wrong but if you are going to pay these guys a fair chunk of change to design jobs for you, you may as well pay attention to what he is telling you.

I suppose there is an atmosphere of fear in our trade at the moment, I was talking to someone else about a similar issue and when I could produce stats and paper work to back up what I was saying he then brought the whole testing procedure into question. FFS, what the feck are we meant to do?

haha, my life wouldn't be worth living. To be honest, I hit the panic button a bit and got a price list to swap them all out but now only have to dump 1 set. Maybe shouldn't say this on line but I reckon they would take them back off me anyway.

I have seen them somewhere , hope its not my yard :wondering:
but almost all of ours are the flat brace apollo beam or the Haki type

they used to make ladder beams like that years ago with the end flat but they where 2 inch tubes so i suppose they where much stronger

Has anyone else ever used the lateral beam couplers- they look like a12in lenghth of steel with a 1/2dc welded to each end set at a 45dg angle that attach to 2x tube thus turning them into a beam-i havent used them for over 25yesrs but came acctoss them in gens yard ladt week....nearly bought some just for the sentimental use lolo
