A bit of advice please lads...

Im after a bit of advice lads, I've worked for the same company for the past five years and got my part 2 with them and have just paid myself to do my advanced. I was the highest achiever in my group at college and I would class myself as having a decent amount of experience. Unfortunately with me only ever working for the 1 company, u don't achieve many contacts. So I'm wondering how do u get about getting work on shut downs etc and generally jobs with a bit of money on or even getting yourself down these routes??! Cheers lads
 
If I was you, id stay where you was bud! I'm talking from experience ;)
 
I would do mate but havnt been paid propery for 3 weeks now! So need to do something about it soon.
 
Thats not good. Sort yourself out a c.v and send it to all the big companys like cape, deborahs, interserve, hertel. Some big shutdowns comin up in the next few months but not sure of anything at the moment.

There is plenty of agency work about but most of it is only a few months max on each job. Its a tough call as to what to do. Do you live in Liverpool?

If your a member of a union then get them on your companys case. If not then might be worth joining one.
 
Cheers bud , yeh live about 10 miles outside Liverpool but don't mind travelling been doing a 60 mile round trip everyday for years now! I've got Ineos in Runcorn about 10 mins away from me and Fiddlers ferry power station about the same so there's a few nearby.
 
You will have to do your Safety Passport (CCNSG) to work on refineries, power stations or the like. 2 days of boredom and between £80-£140
But I expect you know that.

sometimes you gotta bite the bullet and just move, its a hard choice and sometimes it doesnt work but then you just move again
best advice i can give is never burn your bridges
 
Nice 1 for all the advice! Would consider working down south, as I have no ties really! Just a pissed off bird if I worked away but u have 2 do what u have 2 do. Where a bouts down south as I know London is ridiculous for digs & how long approx. Cheers again much appreciated advice!
 
About 60 - 70 miles out of london. Digs are easy enough to find. I just lodge in peoples houses usually. Most the time you can get free internet and use all the utilities. For about £80 - 100 a week. You can always talk to your bird on skype online. Thats what i do, then go home for weekends.

Chosen 1. don't even ask about Pyeroy! It's because of them that I barley have a job haha we done a load of work for them and have not paid us a penny! Owe us nearly 100k which is alot for a fairly small outfit!
 
Cheers gaz how many hours you doing a day down there for that?? And is it worth your while..?
 
I've had some really good digs in Hackney and Walthamstow with parking and wifi for less than £80 a week all through spare room.
 
Its only 8 hour shifts at the mo. Im starting on another site tomorrow so dont know the full crak about weekends or anything yet. There is one in hastings but thats 8hr days and no saterdays, 1 - 2 months work left on that. If you can sort some cheap digs out in hastings then your laffin.
 
I worked on the same site for 5 years, leaving was the best thing I ever did.
I went straight working on the powerline's for Dixons then in to the stations for Interserve. Since leaving over 7 years ago I've worked all over the country.
U have stability were u are which is good, but I'll never get to learn different things and jobs if u stay, but then also if u do leave u start ur service with a different company again. It's a decision u need to think about properly. Once u start chasing the money it's hard to stop.
 
Its deffinatly better than no work atall. You can go paye or cis. They both have their advantages.
