A MAN arrested after a van smashed into South Tyneside Homes’ headquarters has been bailed by police.

The 44-year-old was arrested at the scene on Sunday night after the van hit Strathmore House, in Jarrow’s Viking Industrial Estate.

The entrance to the complex was demolished in the 8pm smash, with workers drafted in to paint the temporary boards at the damaged entrance.

The centre oversees housing repairs and maintenance across the borough, including the Decent Homes programme.

Police quizzed a man from Jarrow yesterday and later bailed him pending further inquiries.

Isobel Riley, chief executive at South Tyneside Homes, said they were helping police with their investigation.
