hi there,
Just have a question re cis tax - am running my own business and currently invoicing clients and they are deducting 20% cis tax from net total. I am not sure if I should be detailing the invoice for erection and dismantle say 60% of the price and hire of scaffold 40%. This way I would only get deductions on the 60%. Is this what other companies do??
Many Thanks

they will take 20% of every invoice irrespective of how you do it, until you are properly registered as a company, good luck

Thanks superscaff75 - I will look into this
Rustyspanner - I am registered as a partnership - not as a ltd company - I'm just not sure if CIS is due on hire as its not on the hire of scaffolding alarms for example.

Thanks lads

jon, youre quite right, you should be charging 60% for material and the remaining 40% would be liable for deduction, that is how they all used to do it. It's been a while but don't think it's changed that much.

yes thats correct Aom an jon , but its easier if you can apply for your cis 6 some contractors dont like splitting the cost , too much hassle, and you will find some contractors will avoid you with a cis 4 altogether.

jon have a word with bettertax on the forum, or if you already have an accountant speak to them .

I thought all that cis thing was scrapped altogether, we now have a utr number instead.

you are correct again Aom but i think it is still calculated by same way cis was to work out if you are a 20% tax or not , im a bit rusty on this side of the business now but used to do fair bit in accounting side of things, like i said he should speak to better tax or someone

If memory serves you have to have some sort of proven track record at paying tax on time and a certain level of turnover to qualify for the utr number. I could be very wrong as once you got it you just have to pay the fekin bills.

Thanks lads - going to make enquiries - that link was very helpfull - no prob getting the cis 6 - just seems like you pay your own cis tax at the end of the tax year rather than clients deducting it for you. Cheers again

Oi JakDan - what ya trying to pull!?

I think this discussion regarding our fees was more than truely covered, but for the record, we take 30%, Rift take 28% + VAT (which is now 20%).

We also do CIS and PAYE - <sigh> I shouldn't need to be saying this... AND, we support the forum along with contributing very fine posts to it!

Anyway, Jon, do give the office a call, talk to Ricky, he'll set you straight, ok!

Register with the inland revenue to do your cis online and you will find it easier. Then your customers can check with your UTR number. We never get deductions. Good luck!

Better Tax, You might be able to answer a query I have. I have been given a sales quote from a UK company that I intend purchasing some kit from, the quote includes VAT. I am based in the Rep of Ireland and as it would be classed as an export is it liable for Vat, I have purchased materials over the years this way and not been charged UK vat,or Irish Vat, except if I sell it on. Have the UK tax regulations changed. Thanks in advance.

Rosie, that was not me it was poledancer, Admin has removed his post which you may not have seen, i was just having a dig at him for his free advert carry on,

Sorry for the confusion:embarrest: i love better tax me:love:

Aww JakDan, now it's me wearing a :embarrest: look. No I hadn't seen the previous post and I'm afraid to say, I didn't spot the edit in yours. I was being a little sensitive maybe as we'd just had a request a callback from a "scaff" called "Simon O'Malley" and when we called back, Rift answered the phone! :D

But for the record, we charge 30% of the successful refund (no minimum fee and free for those that aren’t so lucky with their claim that particular year, Rift however take 28% a minimum fee of £40 something pounds and or a flat fee of £175, or £150… in fact they can’t seem to make up their minds since they have been trawling through our website and adjusting their own text which is now starting to sound suspiciously more like us.

We're specialists at CIS & PAYE tax refunds, it's all we do.

And, above all, customer/client service is our highest priority and among those customers, scaffs are almost royalty at Bettertax.org (just ask any of the scaffs that have used us).

Which brings me to the most important point… I’m sure our competitors are competent at what they do, but just like when you choose any supplier or service provider please do your due diligence and find out what others that have used the prospective company are saying about them.

You can see independent reviews on us at freeindex I don’t know where you’d find genuinely independent reviews on rift? :)

Brandy - I'm in agreement with you, as far as I know - you shouldn't be paying VAT on the purchase as an export item as long as you supply your Irish VAT registration number and the seller shows it on their invoice as I believe that Southern Ireland comes under EU Export laws.

Jon hopefully, you'll give us a call so we can help!
