WATCH: Ever wondered what it was like to be a Scaffolder way back when "health and safety" was unheard of...? This video shows a gang working from one scaffold board 200ft above the Thames in 1951, as scaffolders erect structures around Tower Bridge in London for stonemasons to make vital repairs after the Second World War.

I also saw this video in an online publication. I started scaffolding in the late 1960's and at that time nothing had changed. Through my career I have seen the introduction amd progress of PPE to the level we have today, The skills card system, eg. CSCS etc and although people moan about it training to set standard levels. Building site's have never been so organised and safe as many are today. I say many as I visited one recently which appeared totally disorganized and hazardous. There is still a way to go yet before we eliminate dangerous practice from our workplace.
