Hi guys,

What is the procedure, standards or guidelines for using BS 2482 - 38mm Timber (normal scaffold boards to us) for use in fully boarding out Cuplock scaffold. If allowed where does it say so ? and if not where does it stipulate that you cant.? Looked in the MIM but its not clarified.

Sometimes now in our game you have to be a Philadelphia lawyer to clarify anything.....:)

Thanx
Doddle.

I appreciate you’re looking for guidelines but if the transoms are installed at the correct spacing per board, then I don’t see the issue.

Stonedrose, the problem is not the transom spacing easy sorted that. However, using scaffold boards lowers the handrail minimum required handrail height. Yes, the option there is we can run another tube tube on top but every lift is boarded 13 in total that's a lot of extra gear.

You may use standard scaffold boards on Cuplok scaffolds, there is nothing to say you may not.

Your requirement is to position transoms at the relevant board crs to support the boards

Cuplok provides intermediate transoms for just this purpose and as such does not give the guard rail height issue referenced by Doddle, this issue is only encountered if you use T%F to tranny out to take your boards

You need to install an additional handrail to comply with the work at height regulations minimum of 950mm if you use tube transoms. If you don't install it you wouldn't be in compliance with the law, no matter what anything else says. As Alan says if you use the Cuplok intermediate transoms this isn't an issue but if you use tube on top of the Cuplok ledgers then it is. You can install another level of Cuplok tubes at 1500mm above the lift which would comply with the WAH regs.
