looks to me that the end of the beams were supported through the single story extension then some clever roofer has stripped the standards out to tyle the roof maybe

i only used beams on that side of the gable, cause they were only stacking slates from the front pitch on that bit of the job, DERRRRR, no point putting beams right through cause they weren't carrying any weight on the back. Jeeezzzzz, try to save the customer some money and everyone turns into the Mr critical :eek:
