Bit of a random one here lads, does anyone know what type of wood generally speaking, your average 9" wide, 1.5" thick scaffold board is made out of?
Obviously it has to meet the criteria of whatever British Standard(s) apply but is there a a particular type of wood used?:wondering:

In the uk, Scaffold boards are made from European whitewood, which is imported from the continent as it is this particular wood that is stipulated in the BS 2482.... hope that helps

In the good old days boards where made of piranna pine too expensive now

some of the boards we are using lately seem to have been submerged underwater for 6 years they that heavy

No bit , the reason they are so heavy is because they ain't been seasoned properly ,
Your supposed to season timer for a year for every inch in thickness , so that's 18 months for a scaffold board but the are cut ,banded and on the lift within weeks these days

It's hard getting good boards these days. They r cut down too early and are not seasoned properly as stated by phil

How many times have you seen boards leaking sap for ages and warping as soon as a bit of sun comes on them

we done a new university and they insisted on new boards within a couple of months we had to swap loads of them because twisting and warping
