Umbrella rates refer to the extra fiver an hour the contractor must add on to your rate when it's raining.
 
Its the price you would pay for a brolley for when working in the rain for wet money
 
Tbh its a fixed fee thats imposed by a payroll company to process ur wages -instead of the company your working for .. on paper to maintain self employed status many companies use them avoid paye....usually about£13-15 per opperative per week
