Gust of wind they say! our trade already suffers too much with bad press

Had somebody removed the ties.........We all know what other trades are like

Were there enough ties?
Leicester Mercury say that it is a local Co Emperor Scaffolding and their MD Martin Morley said that the HSE were investigating.

Scaffold Collapse in Leicester

A careful look at the photos and video footage shows a surprising lack of ties to the building for a sheeted scaffold, and what appears to be a very large first lift with no plan bracing.......no wonder it fell over!

it amazes me, the industry place all these courses and stipulations into becoming a scaffolder and yet we see things like this happening.

does it bring into affect that these courses are doing what they were designed to do ?

Been saying it for years, cash cow training centres sending lads out telling them they can erect whatever they like yet they dont tell them they cant build one over two lifts because they arent qualified to pull test ties.....how fundamentally flawed is that !

your right ! the uk have made scaffolding a technical aspect rather than keeping it a simple aspect, ok it is getting more acknowledgement as a trade but it should be classed as a specialist trade / profession. They will put it down to procedures and risk assessments etc when the initial problem is closer to home.
Keep the practical side to scaffolding alive - that's what I say

I have read what you have and I agree with you all but it is the fault of the trainer not the trainee. he should be shown how to put ties in and check them properly with the pull machine.

I've been to loads of jobs where the lads hadn't put the ties in where they were supposed to, when asked why the reply was, 'thought we could get away with it'

This is the kind of attitude that gives scaffolding a bad name, then they cry when they have to go back and put them in.

Nine times out of ten they will say nah it will be fine it won't fall over!
