Grenrose Scaffolding Ltd is seeking to recruit a supervisor who has extensive experience within the scaffold industry, including some experience within the Rail sector.

You should be self motivated and be able to motivate and get the best productivity from the scaffolders. Ensuring that works are finished on time and within budget. A knowledge of current Health and Safety legislation is required, ensuring a good safety culture is maintained within the company. Some brief knowledge system scaffolds would be beneficial as we supply Layher Temporary Roofs and some Layher All Round.

Basic IT skills are essential and the ability to prepare Risk Assessments and Method Statements.

Please contact the Office on 01438 813948 or Send your CV to office@grenrose.co.uk

Giving any and all excuses to knock the lads.
I'm working with a fella now who you've done it too.
Don't bother asking his name either.

mightymouse, how long ago did he work for Grenrose? I have been running the company for the last five years and quite honestly i have never knocked anyone. However there is a difference between being knocked (not being paid for what you have actually done, or an agreed rate of pay) and (wanting £140 a day and not covering anywhere near your money).

I'm sure you have seen many scaffolders yourself that actually couldn't earn their money.

If you worked for me on price and earnt £500 in a day, with a perfect job, erected correctly and safely i would guarantee i would pay it, I HAVE!!!!

He said it was a few years ago , he said grenrose blamed him for some scratches on the building after grenrose removed the protection early, he said he told them not to remove it, they did anyway and promptly deducted his wages when the scratches was found on a day when he wasn't even in work.
Your right, there is 2 sides to every story. Fair play

Honestly mightymouse the more a scaffolder earns the more I earn, it makes no sense to knock someone. But every sense to stop money if its fair. The problem with that is when the shoe is on the other foot its never fair!

What's the going rate for a supervisor? Just out of interest.

160-180/90

not worth it for all the hassle you have to put up with - you get it from the agents, the men and the office. every time you answer your phone you know it's going to be ag. I used to dread monday mornings as you knew come 8.20 all the agents would be screaming down the phone that blokes hadn't turned up. it's even worse now as the men use health and safety as a stick to beat you with!

Health and safety works both ways mate and in truth the men get the stick A LOT more that the supervisor does imho

Granted I've never been in the office but it seems if something goes wrong whether its the mens fault or not there the ones that suffer, I've never known a supervisor come out in public and admit " it was my fault "

Did it once and never again....I could handle the job, the office, the suppliers even a nuclear attack but the two things I couldnt handle were

the absolutely disgraceful behaviour of some so called grown men, never been out the trenches before to really see how low and bitchy the blokes could actually sink....

And having to report upstairs of a bloke who was just unmanageable, as even though it was my job I could never get around the feeling of being a grass,

Chargehand not a problem but I have a new found respect for all those supervising and I for one will certainly make sure blokes around me dont create sh1t for the sake of it !

I completly understand the grass bit joe even tho ur only doing ur job the guilt in ya proves ur a proper scaff mate ;)

Your wrong bobby, I've had a foot in both camps. Supervising is a thankless task. I've had grown men ring to tell they have "no bus fare to get to work", "their kids in hospital" when really they were too pissed to come to work, moaning the "tube is cutting into their shoulder" when they carry it - FFS, and these were everyday occurences.

On the health and safety side, a few years ago, you'd give a bloke a job and he'd go away and do it, now every fooker is a fully qualiifed H&S specialist with a list of excuses why they can't do the job unless they have x, y and Z. sometimes it seems to be a competition to see who can quote the most rules and regs to the agent, instead of just getting on with the job in hand!

I agree with the ringing up part as I was murder for a excuse as a youngun

As for the h+s If you sent me over to do a job I personally would just crack on like most and yes there are a good few that finds problems just to not do anything which is equally frustrating on boths sides but if a genuine moan up about h+s ie weather/steel works above or even haven't got scaff step occurs what's the supervisors response then???

Now I've been grilled before for all the above and more at firms that preach health and safety I've even had a hearing because I refused to strike a canteliver on my todd years ago ( I won't name firm) again I understand its a hard job but from my exp the blokes come of worse
