As title suggest, we have an 18m span to erect as, usual in the middle of nowhere. They are forming their bridge by throwing across 2 steel beams braced then they want us to install our job on each side and they fit the steel deck as they go to deal with the large gap in the middle. We have a design proposal which is a bit of a nightmare as usual as it includes a fair chunk of timber packing but the main problem is getting the job out once everything is formed. The design scheme is for underslinging X beams off their steel acting like Aberdeen's then sitting beams on top to run across it's length. Then we have to cantilever out a 2 board wide platform, which seems pretty neat to me but as long as the client goes for it. Once everything is formed, the first X beams will be well out of reach and are going to be a nightmare to get out. Cherry picker is about as good as I can come up with but there is not much specialist equipment round these parts and I just wondered if anyone had any old school tricks they wanted to share?

Whats the bridge over ( no simon & garfunkle jokes please)

It's only 3m between the steel, but another 750 from there to the outside of the finished bridge. The cantilever is on both sides of the bridge, not really for anymore than edge protection as most of the work will be done from the steel floor. It's bridging a fair size ravine which carries a lot of water of the hill in winter but will be almost dry when we are there.

Hold the phone, I think I have cracked this one myself. (i say myself, the designer might have brought it to my attention:embarrest:) Didn't realise there was a bit of space between the deck and the beam which will let us form a crawl space on top of the beam.

Panic over.

My days of that guff are over. I remember one scaff offshore complaining that you couldn't bend wire the shapes I got into to do the job, now one of the apprentices will get some real training.;)

Sounds like a job for 2 light lines Aom , as long as you can release them from the top just the fu ckers fly with a light line on each end and pull up from one side once you have them hanging straight

Funny, I think that was his first suggestion when we talked about it, I think there was a similar solution on London bridge or so they tell me. The problem with that is you would need inspector gadget arms to get the gravlocks. I feared we would end up building another hanger off the newly formed bridge or having to hire some fancy fandangled cherry picker contraption but I reckon there is just about enough room for one of these skinny wee runts to squeeze below and do it by hand. It's a throwback solution like the old chimney sweeps but should do the trick.

Might be I can't remember. It's been on the cards for months right enough so I may have. I thought it would have been a bit simpler and then again I really should have known.

alls well that ends well AOM
you never fail to have us all Scratching our heads trying to visualise the locations and the Natural obsticles you have to battle not bad for a wee rural scottish outfit ;)

I think they are wanting their scaffold erected in the next week or two so will post a couple of pictures then.

Cannot beat the old School solutions to problems

Old school still works, I will try and add a picture of what we are trying to do but it is not easy with the forum limits.

I have a few pdf files showing the bridge but the forum doesn't like the size of them and the Mrs isn't here to tell me how to reduce them.:embarrest:

That took a while but you can see what I mean.
