NASC Member Apprentice Achieves nCC Gold for 2nd successive year

In this Olympic year we would like to highlight one particular medal winner who should not go unnoticed. Ross Perry of Midland & General Scaffolding Ltd has recently been awarded 2nd year Scaffolding Apprentice 2012 at NCC Midlands and also claimed 2012 Apprentice of the Year for the whole college. This achievement is made all the more noteworthy in that it is the 2nd year running that an NASC member Apprentice has claimed this accolade at NCC Midlands. This award was previously held by Tom Pollard of JFE Attridge Scaffolding Services Co Ltd.
It was a clean sweep for NASC Apprentices at NCC Midlands with Shaw Miller of Oxford Spires Scaffolding Ltd taking the Year 1 Scaffolding Apprentice 2012 award.

It’s excellent to see member companies continuing to support the Apprenticeship scheme. Our sector has a long tradition in qualifying its young employees via this route. Apprenticeships have not always been shown in the most positive light in the last couple of years. The training, experience, knowledge and assessment that is required to complete the CISRS Scaffolder apprenticeship scheme makes it a qualification that really must be earned. Congratulations Ross, well done for putting Scaffolding to the top of pile.

This type of recognition for the hard work and effort of both the Apprentice and his employer is well deserved and goes a long way to emphasising that the commitment to nurturing an Apprentice’s potential will be repaid over time when the sector will inherit a young, highly skilled and physically fit workforce.
The NASC membership was well represented across the whole of the UK with Struan Cunningham of MJD & Sons (Scaffolding) Ltd taking the Year 1 Scaffolding Award at NCC Scotland and Robert Heather of K Scaffolding Ltd claiming the corresponding award at NCC East. Lewis Syvet of IOT Scaffolding Ltd also won the 2nd year Scaffolding apprentice award at NCC South.

The NASC member Apprentices listed below also received nominations for their Regional awards:

•Ryan Steen (Tilson Scaffolding Ltd) Yr2 Scaffolding Award NCC East
•Craig Loveridge (Alan Wilks Scaffolding Ltd) Yr2 Scaffolding Award NCC Midlands
•Philip Nicholls (Arctic Scaffolding Co Ltd) Yr1 Scaffolding Award NCC Midlands
•Lee Jones (Safeway Scaffolding Ltd) Yr1 Scaffolding Award NCC Midlands
•Ian McCreath (Oxford Spires Scaffolding Ltd) Yr1 Scaffolding Award NCC South
•Aaron Tracey (A&J Maintenance Support Ltd) Yr1 Scaffolding Award NCC Scotland

Congratulations to all of the employer sponsors of both NASC and non NASC member companies for their continued commitment to qualifying the scaffolding workforce. Finally very well done to all the Apprentices who won awards or received nominations, you have done yourselves, your employer and the scaffolding sector proud.

Good on em, I went last year to watch an apprentice who works with us pick up a runners up award, a bit like winning a silver medal at the boxing but he loved it and was so proud and the extra confidence it gave him brought him on a bit.
