Marton attacker to pay £2k for breaking jaw

by George Oliver, Evening GazetteJan 28 2012

A SCAFFOLDER has been told to dip into his beer money to pay £2,000 for breaking a man’s jaw in two places.

The Recorder of Middlesbrough, Judge Peter Fox QC, told Aaron Mellis he could pay £50 a week towards a £1,000 fine and £1,000 compensation.

And he added the 23-year-old could use money he would normally spend on drink at the weekend.

Jealous Mellis had been drinking and taking drugs one night in October when he ran up to James Wilkinson outside Flares in Middlesbrough at 2.40am.

He threw a punch to the 20-year-old’s head with his right arm, causing Mr Wilkinson to collapse on the ground, Teesside Crown Court heard.

Prosecutor Carla Abrantes-Stanworth said that Mellis then walked towards a nearby police officer.

Mellis told the officer on October 16: “Yes, I hit him. He was trying it on with my girlfriend all night.”

Mr Wilkinson was taken to the accident and emergency department at Middlesbrough’s James Cook University Hospital, where it was found that his jaw had been broken on both sides.

He had an operation to fix it later the same day.

Mellis was so happy with his outcome that he posted on his facebook status that he was 'buzzin' and that he's out at the weekend to celebrate.
Yes, that really shows just how sorry you are! What a joke.
