as someone who's recently been at the ncc , doing their ****** system scaffold course , and seeing a bunch of young boys who looked as if they'd never shaved , doing their part 2 , it made me think about the role of the ncc , churning out scaffolders barely 20 years old with part 2's , NOW , could it be these people who end up working for 9 and 10 pound an hour , YES, because to them its an increase because they've previously been paid even less , with their interserves and sgb's and palmers or whatever other mob was giving them 8 an hour as a part 1 , not biggin myself up but , fuckin hell ive nailed that one , someone tell me im wrong , SO is it wrong for young guys at that age to be rattling through part 1 and then part 2 , and theyve been knowhere and done nothing , not even done the real work of filling in their portfolios , because someone does it for them , sayin he built this here and then , when its rubbish , yeah , i fuckin nailed it

the same people who train us scaffolders are the same people responsible for fuckin it up , but theyre little colleges are churnin out the money , now they wanna give bricklayers hop up cards to put every man in attendance in scotland on a site , out a job , thank you

The rates have never really gone back up since the 80s recession we went down from £12
a square to £6 on price , and all a man could do was suffer it or get out the game .

i remember the same recession we went from an average working on price of £120 with GKN down to £35 dayrate take it or leave it, and you had no choice.
today with working tax credits and all the other benifits you've got a choice,

jason seems to think we're all worth £200 a day and that J is bollo..cks, maybe you or many others on here with time served and experiance are and rightly so including all the specialist scaffolders,but... what about guys with little or no experiance ,just coming into the game, or guys that have worked for years and never gone over 20' high you want to pay these guys the same as you... no i thought not cos then you'd spend the next few thousand threads moaning about that !
you have to remember a scaffolder is payed for what he can do not what he sez he can do, a blagger may get a start on £200 a day, but how long before he's found out and layed off,
miminmum wages will only ever get minimum work in return, but will still put a roof over your head and food on the kids table.
you ,me and many others would not work fot it, but its there choice if they want to, and remember the rates that the scaffolders are payed run in line with what the employer can get fom the main contractors

In an ideal world we would ALL be paid a set rate as per our qualifications but this will never happen. Firstly if there was a national rate it would in my opinion mean the boys on the blue book sites, rigs etc would have to have their rates cut because there's no chance that the smaller companies could pay those kind of wages & stay in business, it just isn't feasible. At the end of the day 99% of work is won on price & price alone for these boys.
It's the nature of business, profit is king & without it there is no point being in business. Sure there will be some firms out there making more than others who could probably pay there lads a bit more but there's also plenty who struggling with even £10/12 per hour but this is true in every type of business in all walks of life.
I know of a nation wide roofing company who's rate increases the further south you go but they also have different prices on jobs in the same area because they've had to go in cheaper to win the work & the men at the sharp end are the first to suffer every time.
I'm certain all the lads on here would love to be on top dollar & don't go out searching for £10 per hour work BUT if that's all that's available at that present time should the boys tell 'em to ram it!! & sign on until the dream job turns up? That really will open the doors for the foreign brigade to move in.

karl has it spot on, there seems to be a lot of naive guys on here assuming that its there bosses keeping the wages low...on smaller companies they may have to be low to gain the contract
