Surely its time they banned those bloody things?
Especially the 21ft b@stards.

They nearly weigh my entire body weight, far too much to be handling safely, even more-so when your having to manually handle them at height, wouldn't you say?

Surely with all the rules and regulations the European Union are throwing around 21ft steel ladder beams should be banned.

and when it gets bombed on a muddy building site the weight is doubled or that's what it feels like... the sh1t that gets inside the tube.. and don't say you have never done it...

I usually just throw it off the edge and let Gravity take over.
Its not bombing though... its 'controlled' dropping, lol. ;)

Wet boards must at least , double the weight :wondering:

There again looking at the charts, I must have run all the wagons overweight for many years, perhaps thats why the springs went on the tranny and sat down in the middle of town :D

Just like Buzz Lightyear Jason.... Falling with style....

When I am working out weights for pricing...
Tubes (Total in meters) x it by 4.4
Fittings (Total number) x it by 1.13
Boards (Total meters)x it by 0.05

This is the total weight..

I always say a wagon load is 3.30 tonnes.

They used to make a 27ft ladder beam and a 35ft truss and you used to carryand pull them up by yourself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In this day and age with Health and Safety rammed down our throats, who wants to break their backs?

Even machines have a safe working load and abuse it and it will break.
Our bodies are as similar.

Life is a Marathon, not a Sprint. :)
Scaffolding is the same, as we'll be doing it for 30+ years.

Most injuries and claims are from back related accidents

does anybody remember the brackets for making your own beams? they were about a foot long with a fitting at each end. You put them on a 21ft or whatever length tube all the way along end to end, then fixed a tube along the top and you had your beam. Great idea not seen them for twenty years.

Theyre called lateral beam couplers. & still in use i was in generations yard a while back & they had a pallete load going over to the film studios...g8 bit of kit but not tg20complient lol

Yeah I've seen those my mates got a load in his yard and some on the lorry racks.

Worked for brands in the states if its the same....they also used 16 ft boards but had 3×1 tied on with wire as a toey lol go figure :D

Anybody know the weight of a 13ft steel board, I used some during the summer and I am doing a degree in Civil Engineering Management and as part of my thesis it would help if I could find out the weight, I am pretty sure they are heavier than a standard timber board

Yeah I used them about 20yrs ago, we called them doggie bones because of the shape, handy little things they were, but I suupose since the alloy beams are everywhere they are no longer in use
