the game is defenatley changed the last 5 to 8 yrs years with health and safety years ago you would build a scaffold or hang it with what structures you had around you so if you had steel work or something to come off you would use it cutting down time and materials unfortunatly the new school scaffolders are taught to come from the floor shame but this is the way its going now!!! if it dont come from the floor it cant be built 2013

If they,ve no got a drawing for it,it wont be built.Lots of head scratching and worried looks.
Whatever happened to the quick get out strategy, and it would still be 100% safe.

Someone, somewhere decided we aren't capable of making the correct decisions any more.

ohi ohi marras had a few tonight first time in about ...fek knows. #on it # blowing tashes off minutly . theres no sutch thing as enough gear in the job empty the yard

Not sure if that's health and safety that cause that. On a schedule of rates you will often earn a lot more banging 10 lifts up from the ground with top lift boarded than you would from say putting a couple of beams across from the steel at the 20 metre mark. Its all in the hire costs mate!!

Havespanners Right On That One, The Schedule Of Rates Has More To Do With It Than People Think.

Think its a bit of everything heath and safety labour costs and hire charges depends what job your on beams or lifting frames may earn more than a ton of scaffolding that takes all day to errect where the beams take less time and less gear down to each rate the client wants to paye as hswt says but will say years ago where you could come off a beam or pipe rack with the beam clamp or sk have gone nobody wants to take responsability for the load bearing or swl of the structure these days as for hire charges clients are getting wise with the hire charges and want to no why there paying for excess scaffold laying around sites its a bit of both these days i would say

schedule of rates thats a dark area if the client isnt clued up!!! dont no if they do it the same these days you times the length by the width by the height sounds complex but its just a times button on the calculator our firm used to charge for laydowns in the cooling tower only small jobs but times the height from the steel to the floor probably wont happen now but the client used to say not much change from £5,000 just enough for a pkt peanuts and a pint lol!!! health safety would say is a big part think it depens what job your on haverspanner best jobs are the ones the client leaves you alone on!!

I think it's mixture of H&S and the clueless temporary works 'co-ordinators' that are too scared to let the scaffolders do a job they're trained to do. No trust, no common sense and no certainly no experience. Sites are run by temporary works co-ordinators and a H&S advisors with no scaffolding backgrounds/experince telling us what we can and cannot do. Seems like a battle we will not win...
