Alright Bikerscaff, when i went out to oz in 1992 i had an advanced CITB, i went into the office in the centre of Perth and showed them my card and within a week i had an advanced oz card. No hassles whatsoever mate.Could be different now right enough.

scaff card works in oz

i was in oz in 2006,
as long as you can show them your c.i.s.r.s card you'll be ok
all you need to do is get it changed OVER THERE to what they call a
"BLUE CARD"
(DO NOT LET THEM TAKE IT FROM YOU,OR YOU WILL HAVE TO BUY ANOTHER WHEN YOU COME BACK TO THE UK)if you come back
you might be even lucky enough to find a firm that will accept your c.i.s.r.s card from the uk(they love them out there)
i was earning $2500 A WEEK out there, which worked out at the time(exchange rate changes all the time obviously)to be
£1150 a week for 50hrs.

good luck bro

Alright Mightmouse, Why did you come back? I had to come back as i was only on a working visa. I had the opportunity to stay but decided i wanted to come home. Are you still eligible to work over there?

they love a citb ticket, but you will have to get it changed over if you are there a while.

Mightymouse who was you graftin for out there? Fancy a bit myself like but heard its all yella jelly were you using tube and fitting? cheers

awesome firm mate,
cant say enough good things about them
they use Tube and fitting all the way

it really does depend which firm you work for out there with regards to the yella jelly
70% of the firms do use jelly,BUT THE WAGE WITH THESE FIRMS ARE RUBBISH

you need to get on a firm who use tube and fitting
cause them firms get all the big money jobs,
you can only do so much with jelly as im sure you know all ready

working hours are awesome too

you start at 6am and finish at 10 30 am
then they all go to the beach for a bbq and a surf or do whatever you want(cause it gets too hot believe me bro)

then you go back to work at 2 30 until 5 30 maybe 6
and thats your days work out there
i know it sounds mad to us in the uk but thats how they do it
awesome aint it
you have a full time job but you get 4 hours off everyday

im trying to get a visa to go back but they wont have any of it cause of the recession(oz jobs for oz people is what they told me)
until next year at the least

Hi Bikerscaff

I worked in Sydney for 2 years in 99-00. There was a boom out there at the time with the Olympic 2000 work and their introduction of the VAT (or GST as they call it).
I had an advanced UK CITB card and they would not accept it then, so I had to get an advanced Aussie ticket while I worked on a reduced rate. This takes about 6 months.
The standard of scaffolding is pretty poor when compared to the UK and until I got my Aussie scaff card I was working for a firm called BBS on the Olympic Aquatic centre in Homebush. They use yellow jelly (Kwikstage)
The typical Aussie scaffolder carriers around 5-6 spanners, plus nips (they have a fascination with tie wire) bubble, tape & holder, hammers etc etc - which always amused me!
I then got involved in a firm specialising in power cradles - they call them 'swing stages' which I really enjoyed. They used a tube and fitting build up to support the cradles at high level, and then obviously we rigged the cradles in the usual way. There are a lot of ex-pat British lads working in the industry out there, and the money can be good.
But beware - most people work on a casual basis, which means you can have regular down time and days off. (Older lads will remember the old SC60 system here in the Uk)
All said and done, well worth a crack mate. You'll have a right laugh.

Phil
