hi im an estimator originally from the shipbuilding sector but now in the engineering sector as a freelance

I would like to know
when people talk about m2 of scaffolding for estimating purposes
is it
m2 on plan x number of lifts ?
or m2 on face i.e length x height ?

it may sound a bit of a daft question but different people ( non scaffolders) are telling me different things and I would like to hear the proper amswer from a Pukka estimator or scaffolder

regards

Dave

Hi Davekelly,
Im a newbie to estimating as I just started as one with a big Scaffold company. From what I know, there are 3 different measurements that are used to calculate scaffold material and its weight.

LM (Linear Metres) = Length x No. of Lifts (usually in 1.5 - 2.0m)
M2 = Length x Height to get the facade area
M3 = Length Height x Width to get the total volume of scaffold

And in scaffolding, I really don't think any question is a 'daft' one.
Hope this helps.
