Ocean City, NJ—A construction accident sent two people to the hospital after scaffolding collapsed while they were papering the side of a duplex house Thursday afternoon, November 18, 2010. Emergency crews were called to the scene on the beach block of 81st street at 1:14 p.m., as reported by Cape May County Herald.

Sea Isle City Rescue Squad and AtlantiCare paramedics rushed to the scene, where MedEvac 5 and SouthSTAR airlifted two men to the trauma unit at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City.

The workers, who were identified as Eddie Velasquez, 32, and Marco Pacheco, 24, were reportedly papering the side of the duplex, which was under construction, when a chain that secures the scaffolding snapped. The workers plummeted 22 feet to the ground below.

The workers complained of chest and back pain and a result. One worker appeared to have broken both of his wrists.

A full investigation into the accident is underway. It is unknown if the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will be conducting an investigation as well.

A chain snapped, what the hell do these yanks use for scaffolding.

its an a frame with extensions they put on the top of it,there like a death trap all the plasterers use them. They start of from 2 ft to 10ft tall and put the extensions on them. They also angle the boards on to them, ive seen those boards slip a few times.Thats OSHA for you.
