THE COST of childcare, car parking, old people’s care and even burial are all set to rise.

Swindon Council is planning a hike in fees and charges for many of the services it provides in an effort to plug the £45m budget black hole over the next three years.

They include nursery fees, swimming and exercise classes at council-run leisure centres, the hire of public buildings such as the Arts Centre in Devizes Road and charges for cremation and burial.

Licenses for street trading and for things like putting skips, scaffolding and hoardings on the public highway are also set to increase.

The changes are set to come in at the beginning of January and some include the Government’s increase in VAT to 20 per cent.

The proposals are set out in a document that will go before the council’s cabinet next Wednesday for approval.

Death and tax's Hatterscaff, things are just going to get harder.

You want to try Southampton Council for their licenses. Used to be free. Now there is an application fee, pre inspection fee, weekly inspection fee, post dismantle fee and a deposit for each job.

Basically all in for a 4 week job your looking at something not shy of £350 just for a license. You do get the deposit of £110 back though.

Even **** Turpin wore a mask, this is day light robbery

That's a nightmare, I think here it's still just £60 for 4 weeks. Still don't take anything to do with the permits though leave it for the client to deal with.

in chester, you pay £187 for the first wk then £57 each wk there after, scandalous,

Up this way it differs from £20 in perth for a week to £300 in brechin if in a traffic sensitive area
