Accident ... police at the scene of the crash.

Published Date: 15 September 2010
A DRIVER was arrested after a car went into the side of a South Tyneside pub.
Anne Jenkinson was charged with failing to provide a specimen after being arrested on suspicion of drink driving when her Vauxhall Corsa hit scaffolding outside the Ben Lomond, in Jarrow, just after 11.30am yesterday.

The 53-year-old, from Gladstone Street, Hebburn, was not hurt and there was no damage to the temporarily-closed Victorian watering hole, on Ellison Street, which is due to reopen on Friday.

Bar manager Nicola Fulcher was walking towards the building when she saw the car.

She said: "I heard the screech and looked up to see the car going into the side of the pub.

"Thankfully there was no damage to the building, though the three lads on the scaffolding were pretty shook up."

Jenkinson is due to appear at South Tyneside Magistrates' Court on September 24.
