CHENNAI: Nine workers were injured on Thursday evening when a wooden scaffolding at the under-construction secretariat complex gaveway.

The workers hauling up iron rods for construction had loaded too many on one side of the scaffolding which gave way and all the nine engaged in the work fell down. The iron rods fell on them. Sources said seven of the injured were given first aid and discharged while two Basullah and Krishna Mandal were admitted to the government general hospital.

The superintendent engineer, Natarajan, said none of the injuries was life-threatening and that all inpatients would be discharged soon.

However, sources at the work place said the workers had been under tremendous pressure to finish the works before schedule The workers had been forced to work overtime to meet the deadline of March 13, 2010.
