I need to get a design package on board,:confused: and was wondering which would be the best suited for my needs and how much I should be paying for it. I've had the rep from smart scaffolder to the office a couple of weeks ago and thought it was a decent system, but what do you guys think.

well yep its ok , and they will take installments so possibly the one to go for

Try them both out on trial scaffman (case and cads), if they are as good as the reps say they are then they won't mind letting you have a months trial they are both estimating packages although cads states it has a stand alone design package.

I have both and both are good for different applications, neither are great at everything although the user interface for cads is easirer. Case is the better estimating software but cads is catching up although I still have sevral issues with their system as noted on a different thread.

CADS have an excellent customer/help line and do get back really quickly. Both Richard from cads and James from case are forum members, they both seem decent blokes so ask if you can have a free trial of both mate.

There are other programs out there .If you go for the cads design package you WILL NEED AUTO CAD installed on your pc this is £3000 alone if you intend to draw decent spec designs. I would imagine that the designers on here would probably tell you to just buy autocad and swerve the other programs altogether as auto cad is the industry standard and has been for years.

Go to Web hosting services dedicated and shared hosting, leased lines - Fast2host Ltd and down load the free cad software its virtualy the same as autocad but free although you CAN'T USE IT FOR BUSINESS USE see how you get on with that.

dead link.....................
Type Progcad into google Smokey, thats Progcad not PORN CAD and download the 2009 light free version, its basicaly exactly the same as Auto cad but Free !!!!!!!!!!!!!! remember its not for business use , once again for the tape, not for business use !!!!!!!!! not great on a laptop though ,you need a mouse. You've probably got all the gear on your PC Smokey, including windscreen wipers for all that Porn you watch , ha ha

I dabble ,Smokey, I dabble, not that good but using this I could put together a scale drawing that I then could send to Ben at 48.8 design services that he could understand and use ,this could saves me money and him time, if only it wasn't for private use I could do that, but it is ,so I can't can I.

hi scaffman1, i use the cads smart scaffolder software and it's the b011@k5... the estimating stuff is ggreat for what i do. the tg20 design check they do has saved me a small fortune on engineers costs already and it's helped me to win new jobs cos customers are already wanting to see that tg20 is been followed!!!!
theyv just brought out a new upgrade called check it plus which gives calcs aswell and if the design check fails it gives you a report and explains how you can get the design to pass. Ive lerned so much about tg20 using this, a lot easier than reading both nasc books on tg20.

dangeruss is right about autocad, but there is a cheaper version called autocad LT, you can get that thru julie at cads for just over a grand . but you dont need autocad at all to use the estimating or tg20 check software. You only need to use a version of autocad if you use there the smart scaffold 'draw it' software. But again theyve got it spot on at cads here with this 1, i thought i would have to go to night school for a year to learn autocad, and i hated school first time around so i aint going back for another year! But if you buy there draw it software then you dont need to learn so much about setting up autocad, it comes with a really short guide and i was drawing scaffolds pretty much straight away. A had a couple of probs at first but richard at cads support was top draw! Another good contact there is Shaun, he's an autocad expert and he talks our language so he's not going to turn your brain into custard with gobble de gook!

Case software is ok for the estimating but it is old compared to smart scaff and since the sad news about james was posted on here somewhere a few weeks ago i'd doubt that they ever going to take that anyfurther now.

Seriousley mate, if you're looking at software then look at smart scaff, theyve even got this relly cool 3d drawing tool - speak to julie at cads and she'll talk u thru it and a rep can com out to u to show u how it works. I found about this lot when i was looking for help on the net for tg20. there webpage is Professional Scaffolding Estimating Software - CADS SMART Scaffolder

Well chaps, Just got the cads system yesterday, seems a very good piece of kit, apart from me crashing the system after doing one example quotation. But fair play to Helen and some other staff at cads, they spent about two hours yesterday and today rectifying whatever I did wrong.

Yeah brilliant system but as feared I can't get in to the office to use the damn thing, I think the next course I go on should be time management, still haven't managed to get the best out of this system, I guess you need to be office based to get the full potential.

Aye mate,office based, not 1 to the 18th based:D

aye Paddy, you know me too well, if only I could get my I Pad to fit beside my sat nav on my golf buggy I could maybe get the time to figure out how to get the best from this program.:toung:

Just got smart scaffolder here in oz. (only one in the country) and having difficulties imputing our data and finding the quick stage scaffolding components, if any one can help it would be much appreciated

Are you sure you have the licence for quick stage? If you have it is just a matter of clicking the scaffold type at the top of the page. I'm pretty thick with these things so if I can work it I usually feel anyone can, it's just a matter of having the time to mess around with it. That being said, I am having a little trouble inputting the information for chimney heads, I know I know, you just have to mess around with it.:embarrest: I also just received a £50 voucher from them just for paying a bill early so thanks for that Smartscaff.

It's a bit vague with chimney scaffolding aom, Never really understood what they're trying to describe when imputing the details about the structure.
It doesn't really matter really as long as your close enough, because you have to input the price manually anyway.Something to work on Smartscaff..

Thank god, I thought it was just me. The price wasn't my main concern it was producing the paper work for it the reports and drawings or are you not meant to get them either? It's about the only thing I struggle with and I haven't really taken my own advice by just playing with it enough.

No m8 I've not had a drawing or report for a stack don't think it's possible on their programme ( or any other that I've seen yet). Cant think why either, I'm sure a few generic types could be installed into the software.

If you don't get the tg20 check and drawing's what's the point on having it on there? I don't think I could be without it now and it has impressed a fair chunk of clients but not sure of the benefit of having this stack without the paper work to back it up. Maybe they will be along soon to explain all.
