A HALTON firm has received a major award for going above and beyond the call of duty in its efforts to help the rescue operation in flood hit Cumbria last year.

Halton Scaffolding has been recognised for the vital role it played in reconnecting the people of Workington during the flooding.

When Cumbria suffered devastating floods in November 2009, the town was divided in half by rising floodwater.

Every crossing over the River Derwent was destroyed or deemed unsafe, preventing people and supplies from getting across.

But in partnership with Network Rail, Halton Scaffolding stepped up and built a temporary train station in just six days, successfully reconnecting the area with the transport network.

The crucial work allowed Cumbria to re-open for business and saved it from losing weeks of vital income from tourism.

Now, the Ditton Road based firm has been had its hard work recognised with a Network Rail Partnership Award.
