Does any one have any ideas for rescue methods to put in method statements without getting involved in Gotcha and the subsequent training.

Tbh unless ur on a hanger u dnt need to worry bout rope access.
If on site & a self rescue cant be done- ladders-mweps-forklift

If u want to save urself loads of time & effort with courses & equipment then just buy. A rescue block that way u just have to wpind them back up ...simples..

pull on to boards !!!! just make sure your lifts or lift is boarded

Rescue Plan

Thanks for the responses, just another querey, what is the legal requirement for having a trained rescuer? Would it be one person in a gang, or all scaffolders?, otherwise the the one who needs rescuing could be the only one certified to do it.
If it is the case all scaffolders require the training surely this should be incorporated in the CITB scaffolding courses rather than becoming another overhead to the firm in subsequent training and refresher courses.
Never really came up against this problem before but it has been flagged up on a temporary roof we are carrying out. Have not really priced for the outlay of a Gotcha type system and the training to use it.

Dico is bang on. We have devised a method that is incorporated into all of our RAMS that requires all lifts to have a few boards on that you can pull the person onto. We have avoided the gotcha and other systems as it becomes expensive if you have to buy the kit then pay for training. the method for having boards on all lifts doesn't work on all jobs though and a temp roof does cause major headaches. If you are working with a flat roof below get an allow tower so you can lower someone onto or try to devise a fall restraint system that will mitigate the use of fall arrest and a rescue procedure.

I agree with what ur saying about the yraining but you know that all the time theres another way to get money out of us theyre not gonna change...part of your rams should have a section in it dealing with a fall & the resue @height plan, this can be as detailed as you want it to be. If u check out the hse webpage with reguards suspention trauma and a general google search that should give you a basic idea of what you need. With reguards to trainng- i think you,ll find that all your workers should be trained in whatever method you choose.like i said b4 a retreaval block is a fairly inexpensive and idiot proof way to go.as for the temp roof problem you'll either have to punch up handrails or simply use a retractable line on your harness like a miller falcon...check out ebay you can pick em up for £50 the rescue block will be around 450-500. But a lot more user friendly then a gotcha
