Over this past month I have been seriously looking into going for IEng status with the ICE. Trouble is, I don't know anybody that gained professional membership from a purely temporary works background.

So my question to you chaps is: how did you find dealing with the institutions and did you find more/less hurdles compared to a Civil/Structural route?

Or is just not really worth the time and money?

Thanks in advance.

Its worth your time and money.

If you already a member of the ICE go and meet your local officer who, in a 1 to 1 meeting will advise you on the best way forward. I did this about 2 years ago, they were really helpful.

Download the 3001 documents with all the core objectives in and start matching your qualifications, skills and experience against the requirements for IEng, then you will know how much more (if any) you need to do before you can be considered for professional review.

IEng is set-up specifically for people like us: professional civil engineers with a specific specialisation and as an attainable membership status.

Good luck with it.

I just wanted all the post-nominal crap after my name; didn't realise it would take effort. ;)

In all seriousness, Trying to set up a meeting with the local rep is my next step. Luckily i've kept all my CPD certs in good order so it shouldn't be too much hassle to make a presentation.

Did you manage to achieve IEng BMB, or are you still working for it?
