Richard Noble - Thrust 1 - Land Speed Record

Hi

Whilst he wasn't a scaffolder he did work for GKN Mills as they were one of his original sponsors.

"In 1974, while working for GKN Mills Building Services as a Marketing Manager, Richard started building Thrust 1, the first British jet car. Unfortunately, this car crashed during a high speed run at RAF Fairford in March 1977 and was sold for scrap the same day for £175.00.

Does this count ?

Oh and Kelly Brook's dad was a scaffolder, now I wouldn't mind seeing her on site.

Gary Wilmot was apparently a scaff at some point in his career if I remember rightly.

Whether he was a 'proper' scaff or just picked up a tube once on a site I dont know.

Dave.

Chris Isaacs the singer (Blue Hotel) started out as a scaffolder. Also Paul Hogan (Crocodile Dundee) was apparantly a scaffolder.

Remember Richard Dunne (boxer) on Brae Bravo hook up back around 1987 or there abouts, took a bad tumble (dont mean after Ali's punch) somewhere and broke his legs or summit!! maybe somebody knows more.

Ricky Tomlinson "my Arse"

Humble beginnings
Ricky has had no acting lessons, and is quoted as saying that most of the time he is just playing himself. That character is one of humble beginnings - he was born into a poor family in Liverpool during World War II. He has lived in Liverpool all his life, apart from a brief period when he was evacuated to Blackpool.

Political beliefs
Ricky has never been afraid to make a stand for his socialist beliefs. His involvement in a builders' strike in 1972 saw him jailed for conspiracy - a charge he has always denied. MI5 kept a file on him, in which he was labelled a 'political thug'. He has also spoken in support of Arthur Scargill's Socialist Labour Party.

All-round entertainer
Ricky is a man of many talents. He might have made it as a footballer, but turned down a trial with Scunthorpe United. As well as acting, he's a comedian and banjo player. These talents were to stand him in good stead when he was blacklisted on his release from prison - he forged an entertainment career.

As an aside part of the strike settlement was an extra days holiday that the unions named as May Day :D A year later the rest of the country got it:(

What about Bob the builder.

He can fix it... or is it Wendy.
