HSE have organised a free half-day event to promote new scaffold fall prevention equipment which ensures guard rails are put in place before workers move up to the next level thereby providing collective protection.

Representatives from around 180 building and scaffolding companies are expected to watch the demonstrations which will take place both indoors and outdoors and will include a rescue scenario for someone suffering a fall. The event will demonstrate new, safer scaffolding equipment designed to prevent deaths and serious injuries.

HSE construction inspector Catherine Willars says: “All scaffolding should have guard rails and toe boards to prevent workers falling off when they reach the edge of the platform. But it can be dangerous while it’s being installed when action is needed to prevent scaffolders from falling, including the use of harnesses.

The new scaffolding equipment being shown at Edgeley Park has been designed so that the safety rails and boards go up first, reducing the risk of injury.” To book a place contact Catherine.charnley@hse.gsi.gov.uk
