Hundreds of staff have demonstrated outside a power station in a row over foreign workers.

There are claims health and safety rules have been compromised at the Staythorpe plant in Nottinghamshire.

It is alleged that foreign workers were allowed to move scaffolding even though they were unqualified to do so.

But a spokesman for the company Alstom, which is building the power station, said the correct health and safety procedures were in place.

The company said employees, subcontractors, union and health and safety representatives had been involved in looking at whether the procedures had been breached.

Martin Allen, from GMB in the East Midlands, said members were not prepared to compromise over health and safety measures.
