Not sure if this is the correct section but would like to know who uses who for insuring their wagons. Individual wagons or fleets etc...Companies who are competitive....

Currently we have 3 wagons and a pick up and all are individual with Swinton.

Would be very interested to hear what others do.

trade wise do a fleet policy we have 2 trucks, 2 pick ups and a little van and we pay £5500, been with them for a couple of years mate i will pm you there number if you want it mate

We had a Fleet Wise policy for our truck until there was an incident with it on a single track road. Unfortunately you only find out what firms are like until you have to make a claim. We now use a local broker for single policy's for 2 trucks, 2 vans a jeep and car. We find this the best option as it's always nice to have someone else you can shout at if it goes wrong.

we have had a incident in january do not know the full out come at min but they did ask a lot of what was the truck being used for at the time and so on, so do not know how much it will go up by next year, thick there all the same when something happens, someone told me they had a crash in one of there trucks on a sunday morning, and the insurance company would not pay out because in very small print on the policy they was only insured from 8am to 5pm monday to friday do not know if this, was right or not

We use a local broker and I think they are very reasonable.
We have 3 wagons, a pick-up 3 vans and a couple of cars. We pay around £6700 a year. We have got 4 years no claims though.

PM me if you want their details to get a quote

Try the National farmers insurance,NFU insurance. We had a phew claims and wrote off another car on a sunday and the same driver riversed over a car in the petrol station and wow they paid up and our insurance for 17ton drop bed a 7.5 ton and two cab stars a van and a vw car injection. All on a fleet insurance policy is well cheaper than 6k...
I wont name the driver lets just call him Darren.
But so surprised the NFU were great.
we even had a hire lorry until our lorry was fit to go back on the road.
Try and get a price from these lot.

Sounds like a good enough deal to me. I might look in to that one for the next time.

Fleet can be quite expensive for the Scaffold trade, as insurers aren't too keen on new setups or bad claims history - which are prevalent in the scaffold trade. If you have a solid 3 years with no claims or minimal incidents, then this does help.

Driver training is also a big tick with insurers.

i have a far cheaper way to cover you - if you would like to know pm me, saves hundreds - and before anyone says it - YES its all legal and above board lol

i was going to put my son on our fleet insurance cause he is 17 the price i was quoted was a extra 10,000 so i was just going to put him on a 206 van and it is still 4700,

I have 11 years NCD, not on all policies but certainly as much discount as is allowed on most of the vehicles, I have only ever claimed a windscreen for my car. Driver training is also not a problem, it took the 2 of us almost a year to get our LGV license through the Scottish Driver Training Scheme which gave us numerous certificates most of which I have no idea what they are for. We have also started our 35 hour CPC training and still can't afford a fleet policy.

Had the same thing when I was supervising for Palmers,Lad going to play football Sunday morning in firms van had a bump turned out he was not covered Policy stated "Business Hours" that in our case was 6am to 8pm Monday to Saturday inclusive

Might be a common get out clause, as everybody knows the scaffs don't work Sunday's. Aye right.

B Safe and Rigger, did you go via a broker? They really ought to have made that clear to you when you took out the policy. Fleet insurance is very much a specialist product and therefore I would suggest doing your research online and finding a reputable insurer to approach. Unfortunately we do not offer Fleet insurance at AIS because we are not specialists in this area and therefore do not feel we could offer best possible advice for our clients in this respect. Good luck with your search!

you will find fleet expensive regardless - 18t lorries can cost up to £2,500 each, but only down as low as £1,750 on good experience, location etc.

Well I just got a quote today to add an extra wagon with no NCD and they mirrored the other policies we have and for a 2003 merc 815 it was £1450 and thats for anyone over 25.

Thx for the feedback as it was an interesting read to see how others work.
