Normally of course they would, but as i said in the post, i am not the agent, employer or have anything to do with the company offering this position, so i suggest that you confirm this detail with them.
If you've worked the Middle East before, you will know the answer and if you haven't, then you will probably have little chance of getting the job, but good luck anyway.

Sorry my friend.
In the past i have posted many jobs that i get to hear of and i always try to remember to say to contact the advertiser as i have no connection with them or the job, blah, blah, blah, but i ALWAYS get some of the guys asking me questions about them and some are already answered in the advertisment, which makes me a bit mad at times.
I've seen some of your previous contributions to this forum and was therefore somewhat surprised to get the question in the first place, hence my reply, but it all makes more sense now !
I see that you are in WA, how's the work situation out there now. I hear that the whole place is booming and infact two of my Fillipino Safety Officers from my department are currently being poached by an old manager of theirs who is now in WA somewhere. It sounds busy and a bit like it was in '88 when i was there on holiday. Just about every where i went, i encountered someone who was offering work, but at the time i had my own business back in the UK and felt i couldn't just walk away from that and the boys working for me. Right decision at the time, but in hindsight i wish i had decided otherwise. C'est la vie !

Johnny,WA is booming due to the iron ore being bought by the Chinese. Good money can be made in most of the remote areas. My scaffolders are on 40 bucks an hour plus plus. I am in Karratha which is booming at the moment. Several LNG projects are underway with more in the pipeline. Queensland is also going to be busy.

Stepee 45 is maximum age? Puts me out the frame then. Guess I will stay here in the red dirt rather than go back to the sandpit lol

Just for you information guys, I was informed by TS International that there is an age limit of 45 for this job.

Good job i'm not interested then !

Yes, all i hear from down that way is sounding good for business, so 'make hay whilst the sun shines' as the saying goes and if Karratha is half as nice as i found Perth, you'll be having a good time doing it there.

Cheers from a hot Middle East !

Yes Johnny making hay and banking it!!!!! Karratha is a hot dusty working town. Comparing it to Perth is like comparing Sharjah to Dubai !!!
How is Mirfa? Still a sh**hole??
Cheers from a very pleasant midwinter Karratha 27C
Sorry Johnny I was thinking of Mussafah where the refinery and yards are !!!

Its not quite as bad as that as the have 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom houses with flushing toilets and swimming pools these days.
Sure its dusty, hot and plenty of flies but they even have a Woolworths.
Still for 200 grand a year can put up with it a little longer!

Its Catch 22 mate.
As Johnny says in his previous post if you havent worked out there before you probably wont get the job. And then how to get out there to get the experience???:wondering:

As Havespannerwilltravel says, it's really difficult to get out here if you haven't been before. You can only keep applying and hoping that some company is desperate and hasn't got the time to wait for a guy with the required ME experience.
It was a bit easier years ago when i started, with companies like Costain bringing out 200+ Brits for the Das Island shutdowns and although a brief stay, it allowed you to say on your CV that you had been here.
I'm afraid that most of the positions are now taken by Indian, Pakistani, Nepalese or Filipinos and a few are very good and worth having, but what they do have going for them is that they are able to work for much, much less than a European would be able to. As a rough guide (but very rough), a Brit would expect around 35-40,000 AED Dirhams a month at least (around 6-7000 quid), + an apartment if the job is city based, + insurance, flights, etc, etc, etc,.
One of the very experienced, top end TCN's would happily work for 1.5-2000 pounds a month or less, with their Scaffs working for around the 200-250 pounds a month mark and loads in between that figure and they have to find their own accomodation unless they are out of town on a camp somewhere, which most are.
At those rates, there are very few opportunities for Brits in the Supervisory level and usually only the guys with managerial experience have much of a chance these days.
We've even now got the East European crowd to deal with. Some are very talented and will work for a third or a half of what Western Europeans are able to, so thats another option for the 'hard up' companies here.
Just keep banging on doors via the web and eventually you might get a break.
Good luck.
J

Yes, i thought that it was unusual that someone knew Mirfa, because there's nothing here unless you are working on this project as it's the first.
Mirfa is exactly 103 miles from the Corniche (and the Ally Pally), in Abu Dhabi, in the direction of Ruwais which is another 50 miles or so further up the road.
Mussafah is still a right mess and will never really change. It's mainly full of Indian and Pakistani businesses and they have cleverly managed to transfer their lack of cleanliness back home, to their new workplace. Very nice !
When i was in Aus in '88, i now recollect speaking to a couple of guys who worked up in Port Headland occasionally and they described it as almost a Wild West situation at the time.
They claimed to be Carpenters who spent the winters up there jobbing and repairing houses and the like and claimed to me much in demand by the females in the houses that they worked in, as the husband/boyfriend was usually out working and the girlies were bored.
They did say that it lead to some epic punch-ups in the bars occasionally, but they seemed to think that it was all worth it and they'd return to Perth for the summer, do nothing but BBQ, drink and party until they were skint again and then it was time to go back up to PH for another summer of debauchery.
At the time i wished that i'd trained as a Carpenter !
Enjoy your nice Winter
Cheers
J

Ahhh the old Ally Pally mate.....not in the same class as Yorks in Dubai but the best there was in AD lol
Karratha can boast some "wild west" bar punch ups too but not as many as Hedland.
Arent they building a lot of new labour camps out on the Ruwais road?
Enjoy your long hot summer mate!!

Yep, in the Ally Pally every weekend and it keeps me happy !!
Ruwais has expanded hugely since i was there in 2000-01.
All the camps are now situated to the land side of the E11 Sila Road and the road to Ghayathi is now surrounded by camps - hundreds of them it seems. The estimate from a seminar that i had at Gasco recently, was that there would be about 120000 construction workers in the area by the end of this year and that's not counting the failies and locals. The queus to get in the secure area of a morning are running at around and hour each day i'm told by our project people up there.
Hopefully i dion't end up there again, i've had enough of the sh*thole that is Ruwais thank you !
