Scaffolder capes

Good luck with the new start lads , out of interest what are the O/T rates ? If they are paying time and a half and double it might end up being a half decent gig for sweaty land !

down south cape are only paying 13.56 for advanced on paye sounds poor but bye the time you wack a bit of bonus on it and throw some hours on it with the weekend works out a resonable wage on todays climate just looks poor on the rate but would say you need the hours to pump up the jam

to markwalker:: live in edinburgh mark, but can travel..how come mate??

all the present day scaffs have only them selfs to blame regarding money,we no its not great but over the past ten yrs companies have realised that they will allways get people to work regardless and its snowballed and no one is doing anything about it,im retired now ,back when i started in the industry it was the scaffolders who held the upper hand, and companies would bend over backwards to accomadate any reasonable request, bearing in mind scaffs did not give a toss them days( no morgage)firms now no they will get people to do the work and divtate the rates, different breed of scaffolders now, lot more sense than we had in my day, better sense of responsibility.

Good post Denbo. I agree. In Australia now it is like it was in UK years ago and thats why the scaffs here are earning top dollar.

yes, we had to graft for our money in them days,I started as a labourer with some top scaffs in the 70's in London and were all on target street work.Don't do the work, don't get the big wage.We also used to have friendly competition between gangs to see who could earn the best wage per week. Gangs were mates in them days and looked out for the young guys startin like me if you were a grafter. These days I'm afraid there's too many NVQ lads that expect a wage cos they have a card and don't think they have to graft hard. With all this H&S sh... thats about now, it's killed it completely for both old scaffs who don't need all this regulation and young scaffs who are more experienced in paperwork than putting up a decent job in a decent time.

ah the good old days.falling asleep on the bus home after a hard days graft.
pride in your job and the amount you got done.
denbo and daffy youve got me with a tear in my eye and a lump in my throat
oh and a can in my hand!

back in 74-75 a lot of us london street scaffs used to meet up in Clangers in Liverpool street about 5 ish thursday nights, get pissed and get the tube home about 8, work gear and spanners still on . anyone remember these daft days.
