It's all very well people laughing at rates of pay being offered. Admittedly if someone is living in London or the south they would need a higher rate of pay to allow for higher living costs. From the Midlands heading north rates of pay are generally lower.

Companies like Pyeroy in the north east have been advertising rates around £9.46 an hour. Again people have turned their noses up and slagged the rates.

I would be the first to argue that scaffolding is probably one of the most strenuous and over regulated jobs going and it's getting worse year by year. But I would also say that we've been in a recession for the last 4 or 5 years and everyone has been affected in one way or another.
Not all companies can afford to pay rates that people won't sneer at and criticise. Companies have had more and more costs to deal with due to regulations, fuel increases etc and the money just isn't in the game just now.

It's all very well telling the world that "I wouldn't work for that" or "them rates are taking the p1ss". Some people don't have that luxury. Some people also take these jobs because they won't lose their dignity by signing on.

Can I ask any of the lads commenting in this thread this.......Imagine you've been laid off and you haven't had any work for a few weeks. What is the least you would work for? And how much better off would you be on the dole?

Point taken Dass, but i still wouldnt work for them rates.

rates are ok for maybe locals and not much experience.but traveling men would get the same at home with no worries about are they going to get knocked or if they being paid if weather is not workable conditions, some not all are about who do that to hard workers, agencys dont think much about that as they get paid no matter what,,,just a thought,,, good hunting lads

You got to have some pride mate, **** working for those rates.... if no one worked for **** rates, they would have to put them up.. simpla as that, but whilst people are willing to work for peanuts the rates will stay low..

agree mate with you compleatly,,problem is we trained up so many polish that they still work for next to nothing now, and our system of scaffolding is suffering because of these agencys[ some not all] are working it big time with so many scaffs out of work,,,
